I have a 98.5 24V.

Ok so here's my symptoms... I'll be cruising along (usually in 4th gear) and suddenly - the truck will die, loose power but still be running. Like not receptive to pushing in the gas pedal anymore. I'll throw it in a lower gear, and will come right back. The check engine light of course will come on.. Did it to me for about the 6th time today. After driving for a while the light will go off... But did it again today on my way up the hill from work. So with the light still on - I went up to AutoZone and had the code read...

It said a P1693. Which to AutoZones records indicate a "Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction".

What is this? Where is the Control Circuit located?

And finally - I was told by another DTR member that it's related to the injector pump which I just had replaced...

P1693 is a MAP sensor problem. I'd clean your MAP sensor and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, I'd replace it. They are like $20.

 

The P1693 is a DTC detected in campanion module or DTC detected in PCM/ECM.

You will have to take it in and have the actual code pulled in order to find out whats going on.

Had the same problem your having and ended up replacing the APPS, problem solved. ( pulled a p0121 code when i took it in).

P1693 is just a companion code meaning that a code has been set in the ECM or PCM.

Autozone is using outdated or incorrect information.
Other Chrysler products have the 1693 as the turbo charge one.

Since you don't have another code, that is odd.

Almost sounds like a TPS or APPS problem, you might try the recalibration procedure found here.

Second what phox and others said. It is a Apps prob. Mine has been doing just what you described for several months or longer now. It doesnt die, just goes to idle. When it happens, put in neutral and mash the go pedal a few times and it will come back. I will be walkin before I spend $440 for apps. A reflash a the dealer may work.

 

definitely sounds like APPS, not inj. pump...try the reset procedure in our tech section first (free)..after that, i would make sure the APPS is bad before replacing it. I beleive you can check with a voltage meter but im not sure of the exact readings it's suppose to have, if it reads OK get a re-flash. the thing that really stinks is you have to replace the whole unit (like $400)...it is really a poor design because it's a small sensor hooked to a large bulky aluminum housing and you can't just replace the sensor..a waste of metal in my opinion...

 

Waste of metal... I'm beginging to realize that there are a lot of those items on this truck...

It's still hard to sit after that injector pump went out...

 

i here you...i have the same vehicle i bought used a yr ago and replaced lift pump, inj. pump, CKP sensor and needed a re-flash too...did all this within the first 90 days of ownership and no other problems...these are problems that we all have and i do beleive you are almost out of the woods and shouldnt have any more problems...Lift pump maybe but that's just life with our trucks however it should be a couple yrs at least...dont give up ...all makes of trucks have their querks

 

Heck, I have been posting a similar problem to friends and even my own thread and finally pulled my code today, P0121 the APPS. I am going to recalibrate mine again and hope that fixes it for now. I had heard the Injection pump might be going and the MAP sensor or some kind of electrical problem might be the cause. I went to the dealer to find out some prices and this is what I have for yuh. ECM # R5083997AA is 825$ remanufactured, PCM # 5604284AD is 430$, Map sensor 5017791AA is 164$, Cam Position sensor # 5080577AA is 58$ and the IAT 5014197AA is 28$. I have heard that the APPS is around 230$ but didn't get that price from a dealer. Hope this helps someone out.

At least try the APPS reset procedure.
It might at least help until you find some money.

did that last night.. let it sit for an hour. engine light went off after about an hour of driving. we shall see on the way home if it fixed anything.
