Hope it isnt serious

Truck was ticking so I call Marty for the OF Valve and he says yeah get one. I install the overflow valve and the ticking stops. Then another ticking starts. Not like the overflow valve that only ticks at idle, this ticking increases as the RPM increases. Cant find anything! Any guesses? Also, looks like black fluid coming from the center of my driver side wheel center cap. Not oily looking but more like brake dust being washed out and then drying on the wheel. Any guesses on that one? Driving to Texas in two days so dont want to have any problems. Oh yeah, drove to San Diego from Yuma and back on half a tank and got 17.6 mpg at 60-65 mph with 4.10's, Im not complaining.

I had a valve adjustment about 4k ago. Im wondering if everything was tightened properly. Could it cause damage on a long trip? I dont have time to get it done now before I am supposed to leave.

Somebody said lift pump? I hope not, cant afford that right now. How often does a 7100 go south? Should I take the new overflow valve out and check the guts to see if everything is ok?

TX, yes. I would check the overflow for all the time it takes. Don't drop that washer!

Yeah sorry lift pump not injection, I was thinking big money when I didnt need to. Went to a shop at lunch and they put a stethoscope in the motor and the ticking is coming from the lift pump. Is this bad or should I replace it now? How far can I get on that thing before it quits? Bottom line is I have to get to Texas from Arizona TOMORROW so will it make it?

It can be bad if you let it tick for tens of thousands of miles. What you are hearing is the actuator arm slapping on the cam, this can eventually deform the cam. This is usually caused by the spring that keeps the arm against the cam getting weak.
I wouldn't worry about it on your trip in slightest.

Thanks infidel, I needed to hear someone say that. For 1100 miles I dont want to be worried that the mile Im on is the last one. I will definately change it when I get back though.
