I am new to the site today. I took my '95 to the store and now all she'll do is crank. I put 10 extra gals of fuel in her and ended up having to tow her home last night anyway. Anyone ever have a problem like this. The truck has run great w/ no problems up till now. I bought it with 168,000 last june and now have 209,000.

 

First thing I'd check is the fuel soleniod, make sure its pulling up. Common problem. If its not and you can turn the key on and manually lift it and it stays up, check the blue wires off the drivers side battery.

 

Sounds like a fueling problem . Do as above, and if that is not it, then check to see if you have gotten air in the lines. Crack an injector to check for fuel. Use care doing it, as it should pump out pretty hard.

IF you do crack an injector dont put ur hand near it when it starts pumpin, If ya do, it can inject that fuel right through your skin give ya some nasty blood poision. seen it once, hate to see it again

 

O'k , the solenoid did stay up when manually pushed and the truck started and ran (rough at first, the smoothed out). Now do I just have to follow the instructions on reajusting the solenoid plunger?

 

The solenoid is probably fine. Most common problems are the blue wire (fusiable link) from the drivers side battery + is corroded or the solenoid relay needs replacing. Blue fusible link from any auto parts, relay $20 from here http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm The foster truck site also shows how the system works.

You should also buy some new starter contacts while you're there, at 168k if they haven't been replaced you are really pushing your luck.

 

I just checked for the "blue fuseable link" and am not finding any. There is however a small black wire comming off the driver side battery that is corroded heavily. I did also find that the plunger on the solenoid, when pulled up, measures out at 2 1/4" or 2 3/8", should I address this now? Thank you everyone for your input, my dodge is my office throughout the week, and your pointers have been extremely helpful.

 

If it was working correctly before and no one has messed with the adjustment I highly doubt it needs any adjustment. With as many miles as you have the fusible link may have been replaced with straight wire in the past. Many times wires can be corroded clear though under the insulation were you can't see it. To avoid further problems just replace the entire wire rather than just dealing with the ends.
