Help with Trouble Codes
Help with Trouble Codes
I have had two Codes in the last week or so, P0341 and P0016. and the check engine light has been on all that time also, it never flashed just on. Truck Started to Spit and sputter and Blow a Gray smoke out of the tail pipe. Got the code off the truck and looked them up on line and well i really dont understand what they stand for. but from what I can tell one may have something to do with timming. I asked the dealer about it and they said no it was bad fuel and so they drained the tank and cleaned the injectors and replaced the Fuel filter. They said they would have a test done on the fuel but nevered showed it to me. drove it home and the check engine light came on again. Both codes are back and they now think the injectors are going bad. anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for the help

First of all, welcome to the DTR. Do you know how to pull your own codes? Turn the key on, then off, then on, off, on. Don't start the engine, just to the 'on' position. The codes will read off in the odometer as Pnnnn where the nnnn is a number. It will say Pdone when finished. Go to http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ and see what the codes mean.
It is pretty much a given if you bring a CTD to a dealer with a check engine light on, they will tell you it is bad fuel so they can do lots of work to reach deep into your pockets. Not all dealers, mind you, but lots.
of course they didn't.
of course it did. Yeah, and they want to change out your injectors for only $600 ea? Run!
Yeah, stay on this site and read a lot. Run your own codes and post them here again. Lots of experts here, I'm not one of them.

to see the Computer Fault Codes
P0341 = Camshaft Position Sensor Performance / Rationality
P0016 = Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment/Out-of-Sync
I'm not a diesel tech,,,,, but I sure as heck don't see why this would lead them to tell you it was bad fuel. It sounds more like the Camshaft Sensor has gone bad.
I would definitely find another dealer and I would also hope you get any money paid to the first dealer refunded.

So First thanks for the help, but now the dealer thinks it is the injectors and told me it would take 7 days to check if they were all bad. So i asked them to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor, I think. they did not Charge for any of this today. but i did have the Check Engine light come back on with the P0016 Code again. I know that is a Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment/Out-of-Sync, But is that a separate Sensor? I'm getting really tired of the run around from the dealer. thanks for the help.
