Ok, I replaced my filter this weekend in my auto tranny, and today the rubber gasket blew out, So I got some permatex, the red stuff, and made my own gasket, I let it sit an hour, before I torqued it,like it says on the tube and now, my question is how long do I need to wait before I can fill it and head home, the tube says 24 hrs to cure, If I give it 3 hrs am I asking for trouble?
Does anyone speak from experience on this one, I don't want to be stuck here all night long, but I need this to work, since I have allready lost a gallon of fluid today,
Thanks

the 24 hours is for a full cure. if you let sit for a few hours, i think you'll bre ok. i've used the hight temp red permetex more times then i can remember. every thing from csb timing covers and diff covers to 2 stroke exhuast pipes. an hour or two is all i've ever waited for.
You do want to use silly cone , I would take apart & clean off the silly stuff , the problem is little bits squeeze out , or into the inside then get stuck in a passage way , plugging up the trans. fluid .
The gasket should not blow out unless there is a problem with torquing the bolts , the gasket is to soft/cheap , and the inside of the pan should not have pressure .
If everything els is ok , a better gasket / stiffer , some have a thin sheet of metal inside the gasket matieral .

use a gasket. clean the surfice with acitone, i sometimes use carb cleaner on a rag, snug all bolt evenly and away you go. if you overtighten the gasket will rip in the middle and blow out. cork, rubber it dosnt mattr , although the typ with the metal band in the middle is best. i think you can only them at dealer

I torqued it properly, the only thing I can think of is that it was a cheap gasket, is there anywhere I can buy a good quality one, either of cork, or the paper kind?
I will replace it this weekend, I just need to keep it going for the rest of the week,
thanks for the help guys

If you don't fix it with a new gasket, thinking you'll get on the road quicker, you may get a temporay fix, but still have more problems before you get the correct gasket in place. If you leak the fluid out driving down the highway you'll perhaps wish you reconsidered your decision. Do it right the first time and feel secure your truck will get you there!
I understand the value of doing something right the first time, but when it is 6pm and the dealer is closed, you need to do smoething, this is my daily driver, and I need to get to work and back this week, on the weekend, I will change it for good,
