help my son is stranded in chicago !!!
I"m on my son's sign in. He's in Chicago with a 2002 high output with a 6 speed. While driveing the pedel went dead and the truck dropped to idle.
Down shifted and it picked backed. The engine light is on the truck rpm's are surging between 800 and 1500 with no pedel. When it picks up in lower gear as long as steady fuel is applied and rpm's are kept up the won't go dead.
No smoke with exhaust. Need help as soon as possible.
After this started he replaced the fuel filter which did not help the condition.

An rv transporter I know (I'm one too) had a similar condition where throttle control was lost on his '04 or '05 ram and it turned out to be the TPS, or throttle position sensor. his is an electronic throttle, but I'm not sure about an '02...
In his case, the part simply was replaced.

sounds like the injector pump is going bad, my truck had the same symptoms that you described, have him cycle the key three times without starting the truck and see if any codes come up on the odometer, the injector pump code is P0216 i believe

Thanks I just called him back with your message he did it and that is the code he gets. That is what he was afraid of. It is still under warranty so I guess Monday it will be in the garage. He thinks he can make it home he is less than a 100 miles away now. Thank God the warranty is still good.

You aren't that far from GR. There is a great dealer there that actually has a diesel mechanic that works there. They also have all the parts that you would ever need. It is K&M Northfield Dodge. I bought my FASS there, they had it in stock at a decent price. I don't know if you have a good dealer around you, but I would definatly go there if I could. Good service and they know what they are doing.
I can recomend another place in Grand Rapids,Michigan, Bridgewater Cummins on Clay St. I was having a problem and the service manager walked me thur trouble shooting over the cell phone. Also they're parts department is open M thurF 24 hours. Their price on a fuel transfer pump was cheaper than abody around here, way cheaper.
