Help dusted???
 

I have a 2007 3500 with the 5.9 cummins. Over the last few days when started it would run ruff with blueish white smoke from the tail pipe, the truck has some blow by that can be seen when the oil filler cap is removed. Once the truck drives about 2 blocks it smooths out and runs fine. This truck has no codes being shown.

I took it to Dodge they said when they looked at the turbo it was pitted and dirty thus the cummins is now NFG and needs to be replaced. Also they said because of the AFE stage 2 cold air intake the repair would not be covered.

This is all kind of hard to take. What do you guys think?

I am dealing with Dodge now so any information as soon as possible would be helpfull.

The only thing I could think is to put the stock stuff back on and take it to a different dealer... they've got you there. The failure would be related to the aftermarket mod.

I would get a second opinion, it could just be your turbo... who knows?

You can try to call AFE and see if they can help you out here, too, just look for info.

How many miles?

I am not calling your dealer a liar, but "dusted" engines do not smooth out and run correctly after 2 blocks........

All diesels will exhibit more blow by than a traditional gasser due to the compression levels. I have seen unscrupulous or untrained people take advantage of an unsuspecting customer.

Are you using much oil?

BTW, anybody know where that stupid term "Dusted" came from?

The dealer you took it to might have voided your warranty in the Chrysler system. In that case another dealer would not honor it. But a second opinion from another dealer would not do any harm with the truck stock. Also do you have a good local shop that can diagnose the problem. Blue, white smoke on start up is not a good sign. It is not normal. I don't know all things that cause that. If I find my diesel book I will look it up. I have not had much success in finding stuff after we moved, again, about 2 years ago.

I would say you would need both a compression test and possibly a leak down test to determine condition of the motor. Maybe even blowby.


Also could this just be a injector leaking alittle over night, I thought that cause a similar issue.

Dusted, doesn't the term come from the fact that dust was allowed in the engine and ruined it?

Get an oil sample and send it to blackstone labs. They could confirm or deny what you have a bad intake filter. I believe it would show high silicone (sp) from dirt getting in the oil. Just my 2 cents.

the term dusted started with the K&N filter, it is not a lot better than window screen. cummins has had warnings out for over two deckades warning about all of the dust causing millions of dollars of damage to the engines. afe is only a little better than K&N. i think the blackstone will show high silicone. after you get your engine replaced put the intake back to stock and add a psm kit to the stock box and get a wix 49946 filter.
