hard starting and no power
hard starting and no power
Hi-500 miles after having the head rebuilt, truck is running grand (97 vintage). I turn the truck off, it sits for 2-3 hours, then is hard to start and has no power. Once it starts, it idles fine and seems to run well up to about 1000 RPM's. Has fuel, liquids are ok. I have checked the fuel/water trap and will replace the fuel filter this weekend. Any other thoughts? I've heard injector pump, lift pump, hoses...does anyone have a troubleshooting process or suggestions. I am a newbie to this. I have a schematic, but would appreciate some direction/suggestion.
Fuel pressure test , I had a similar problem & found both the overflow valve & lift pump had problems .
But always test before parts .
Maybe some one will show up with a link or directions for installing a fitting for putting a gauge to it .

$5 - $10 dry gauge with a 1/8" NPT fitting, screw into test pott closest to the engine on top of fuel filter canister. That will tell you idle pressure and low load pressure if you have someone floor it.
You should be able to pick the gauge up at a farm and home, or tractor supply store. The autoparts stores should all have them, but those gauges are typically for displaying (a little more expensive) rather than straight testing.
