gsk problems!!
gsk problems!!
Tonight i instaled the 3000 gsk from tst. I am going to tell you what i did and then my problem. I removed the afc housing, bared the motor until i found the spring, took the nut off, pita by the way, took the top retainer off and the 3 small springs, left the big one in, took out the bottom retainer and the one shim. Put in the new springs with the bottom retainer that came with the kit, left out the real small spring and shims as stated in the instructions, put the top retainer on and the nut tightened it to where it was at stock and did the same thing on the other side. By the way i put in a different spring in the afc from tst also, the medium one. Got it all back together started it up and idled fine, did not have to adjust it. But when i gave it a little gas in neutral it reved fine but was real slow to come back down to idle, then if i went to about 1800 2000 rpm's in neutral it would continue to climb not real fast but would just keep goin up in rpm's i had to turn it off. Started it back up and di the same thing. I am out of clues, probably something simple, i need help, anything will help thanks. By the way this is in my 97. thanks.
Back off the nut a turn or two...BTW, you did it the hard way, its much easier to go in through the side, you pull the Shutoff Solenoid, and there is a 17mm (I think) plug, bar the engine over until you see the springs, and voila, much simpler. Try just backing off the springs click by click until it runs right, if it idles low after that, use the idle screw to adjust it, not the Gov Springs.
It's been a while since I did mine so I don't remember if you got the springs right. I do remember that the instructions are confusing. I hope someone else can confirm that you did it right.
As far as idle and runaway, backing off the nut a click or two is the solution if the springs are right. Just be careful not to back off so much there are no clicks remaining because then the nut is loose and it will come off and destroy your IP.
