Fuel Leak on 90 W250
Fuel Leak on 90 W250
It appears to be leaking from a fitting directly above the large banjo fitting going into the pump, directly below the small banjo fitting for the boost in the AFC housing. It doesn't appear that it can be tightened from the outside, and it almost looks like a copper plug with a hole in it, inside of a aluminum type fitting. How can I stop this leak?

Ok just took the 4 screws out of the housing, and it was full of fuel....... any ideas? The large banjo looks like it is the injector return, and the small one is plubed into the intake.
Re:Fuel Leak on 90 W250
The copper plug with the hole is the atmospheric vent for the AFC. The most likely cause (and probably the only one possible) is that the guide pin seal is leaking. Did you run the truck with the diaphragm / cone assembly removed? If so, that will allow the guide pin to pop out and leak fuel. In this case it can be just be pushed back in. However, the guide pin seal may need to be replaced. To do this, the top of the pump or the entire pump must be removed.
The banjo fitting that connects to the small metal line is the overflow return line. That most likely has nothing to do with the leak.
Hope this helps a bit,
Sean

Sean, thanks.
I took it all apart to see if I could see anything from the inside and since it is back together, hasn't leaked.
Thanks again, Rick

I just went through this myself a bit. Did you have any trouble starting while you had the leak or was it idling rough? If it starts to do these, better check for the leak again. Mine did this because I tampered with it. If yours did it out of the blue, you may want start putting some money away just in case. Did you ever adjust, or take the excentric (cone) out?

Redleg, as a matter of fact.... yes. Just after spinning the essentric, the leak appeared. Now I did take it back appart and put it back together and it doesn't seem to have the leak anymore.

Junk Yard',
Keep an eye on it. Formula is correct, the guide pin which rides on the AFC cone has a seal that can harden and begin to leak. The fuel is coming from the low pressure/supply side of the pump, but it will fill that AFC cavity fairly quick if the lead grows.
In the end, the top has to come off and a new pin/seal pressed in.
How many miles on the 'ole girl??? Is it getting to be time problems to start surfacing???
Bob.

Make sure everything is dry internally, clean off the outside. Check the inside after a day or two of driving. If it's still dry you should be all right. Watch for residual fuel in the cavity where the pin comes out, and dry that up too. I'm about to turn 200,000 miles and went through this a couple weeks ago. It hasn't leaked since and I commute 74 miles.
