Engine or Pump timing?
 

Wow I just read WAY to much about timing,its lead me to this question,everyone seems to like the advanced timing on the 1st and 2nd gen trucks,I'd like to go to 15*,what does that mean?

some of the posts are talking about poping timing gears off behind the timing cover,other posts are talking about just pushing the pump towards the enging till the timing marks open 1/8",are we talking about the same things?

The local injection shop is gonna replace my pump tomorow,Ive asked them for 15* timing can they simply rotate the pump while they are installing it?or do they have to pull timing gears off the engine?thanx so much.

BTW I posted this in the 12v forum as well as here,is that exceptable?(I'm new at this)thanx

The 12 V forum is for the 94 - 98 engines which have a different injection pump. Thusly a different way of adjusting the timing. Next time just search "timing" in the first gen area.

Gear popping doesn't apply to the VE pump, just the P7100 pump on the 2nd gen trucks. The gear on the VE pump is keyed. Rotating the pump on the mount is how the timing is adjusted.

The local injector shop recommended going with 1.45mm timing rather than the 1.25mm stamped on the timing cover what degree is that? or conversly what mm is 15*?

He also said he would turn the pump up to 96cc rather than the stock 86cc

The couldnt get around to the truck till monday now,so if those numbers are unsatisfactory,I can change them before he does it.thanx all.

1.45 mm should be fine. It's close to 15 degrees. Most guys just crank 'em 1/8 inch closer to the engine, so you're going high tech. :)
