Engine dies

Filled up with fuel and drove 1/4 mile, engine quit then re-fired. I pulled over and the truck ran fineso I drove on. three miles down the road it started "chugging" then quit. I drained the water, would not crank. I pulled the fuel filter, no fuel. I tried to prime it by turning the key on (not cranking it) still no fuel. Finally I filled the resivoir by hand, truck cranked and ran fine(THANK GOD) Thirty miles later when I slowed at a red light the truck started stalling again. Feathering the throttle got me into a parking lot. After a few seconds It smoothed out. Ten miles later it did the same thing. I finally got home. I have to drive this truck to work in the morning.
Thanks for any help. Yall have already helped me out with the extensive amount of info yall submit on this site. Truck info below;

2004.5 CTD
110.000 miles
Baffels and silencer ring MIA

Sounds like transfer pump on the back of fuel filter housing is shot. You could try Napa for replacement pump. Try bumping starter and seeing if pump runs for 15 seconds if not you need a new one.

Here is position of pump held in place with 4 allen head bolts. Pinch connector lock to disconnect fuel line. Remove old o-ring from housing and install new one with pump. Put a little oil or diesel fuel on it when installing new pump. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I'll talk that over with the mechanic in the morning. I do know that the filter needs replacing, that was on my list of top ten things to do this week. Y'all keep the help coming and I'll keep you posted.
