Question Dealer/shop in Tucson AZ to change CPS

My truck is in Tucson, AZ with my wife. It has started throwing Crankshaft Position Sensor performance codes in the last couple days. Since it is there, and I am here in Las Vegas NV, I need a shop recommendation for her to take it to. Quality work and ethical customer service is primary - price is secondary. Over the years, I've come to distrust shops in general, and dealers in particular. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

It's a ways to go but Fred Swanson is in Waddell AZ outside of Phoenix. His # is 623-910-9575. Very ethical guy but can be hard to contact.

Years ago they installed the gauges and a chip on my Ford and also a bullet proof auto into a friend's Dodge.

Maybe not so good now. They quoted my wife $350. Book time on the job is .5 hours (.4 for starter pull and replace, .1 for sensor change). The Service writer she talked to made disconnecting the batteries sound like a huge task. My distrust of shops continues to grow. Maybe I just need to take a ride to Tucson.

No way ,5 is a fair price.............every body needs to put food on the table and that wouldn't feed any body.It is no wonder you don't have a good relationship with any shops

I agree .5 hours too low, still NOT going there.

Yeah,
I was quoting from another post, instead of doing my own research. Apologies. I R&R'd the starter two months ago. INCLUDING disconnecting the batter, it took me an hour. About 20 minutes of that hour was used in making a custom 10mm 12 pt socket-wobbler-extension tool. With it I could R&R the starter now in under 20 minutes easily.
I certainly wouldn't begrudge them and hour, but $350 is insanely high. The clincher was when he told my wife they would have to "take apart the cables from the battery" (his exact words) to do the job. When was the last time anyone here read a procedure for doing electrical work on a vehicle that DIDN'T start with "disconnect the battery".
I'll pack the required tools, take Friday off of work, and ride my bike the 800 mile round trip and do it myself before I hand anyone $350 for the job.

Jim Click - $350+
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've pretty much decided to do it myself. Cheaper for me to fly out, change the Sensor out, and fly back. Click quoted my wife $167.00 for the sensor. I bought it at the Vegas Cummins place today for $45.00.

Okay then, let me ask it like this. What IS a fair amount of hours for the job? I'm betting that I, Joe average, working laying on my back in the driveway, can do it with nothing but hand tools in under an hour. (I'll give more precise times next week, after I do it)
Did you know that the shop rate for working on these things (last quote from Tucson was $95.00/hr) is (a lot) higher than Cerified Airframe and Powerplant shops typically get? When an auto mechanic screws up your truck, it pisses you off. When an aircraft mechanic screws up, it often kills you. There's definately some inequity there.

......seems there was another post on this and the truck ended up getting towed to a shop.

That was posted by JyRo, and he was upset that they were trying to charge him $250. He appears to have ended up paying less.

Done

Okay, so I drove on down to Tucson and replaced it myself. I would prefer to have just had my wife take it to a shop and be done with it, but not for $350+ all three placed quoted her. It took me an hour in the driveway with no lift, jack, or air tools. The job would likely have taken under 1/2 an hour in MY driveway, using a floor jack and air tools.
I would willingly have paid for an hour of labor @ $95/hr, but not 2 hours (+ $167 for the $48 part). That's just thievery.
