Daytime Running Lights 2006 Dodge 3500
Daytime Running Lights 2006 Dodge 3500
Hello All,
I'm new to the site, as I had never owned a diesel before, so I hope someone can help me with my question.
I had recently purchased a 2006 Dodge 3500 4 x 4 from the US (I live in Canada) and in Canada you must have daytime running lights to pass the provincial inspection. I just recently went to the local Dodge dealership to see how much it would cost to have the running lights activated, but they had mentioned that I would need a Totally Integrated Power Module at a cost of $995 just for the part itself.
I personally feel that the dealership is trying to hose me. I was wondering if any of you have effectively activated the daytime running lights without having to buy this module, or is the dealer accurate in their suggestions?
Thank you for your response,
cdn3500

I just bought a new 07 2500 here in Arkansas and of course it wasn't delivered with operational DRL as is the standard practice in the US. I read some threads on here that said the DRL were sort of built in to all the trucks but that they need to be enabled with the star scan tool. I took the truck back to the dealer and told them that's what I wanted to do and the tech brought the tool out and found the menu that enabled the DRL. No new parts were necessary. At first he didn't think they actually worked but it turned out he didn't release the parking brake and the lights won't come on until you do. Mine work perfectly now. I also did the same thing with my previous 2006 Chrysler.
Well, I took the truck into the shop the other day, and the DTR were activated without any trouble. The Star Scan tool fit the bill. Just goes to show, ask a tech or your friendly neighborhood dieselhead, and forget about asking the parts guys, they know shyt.
