Cruise Control Won't Turn On
Cruise Control Won't Turn On
What would cause the cruise not to turn on. Checked the clock spring and It test fine. Have voltage at the buttons. Only three pins on the buttons so aslo does anyone have a wiring diag for the cruise circuit. Took the old buttons apart and when you press the on button the 5vdc goes away. When the set buton and resume buttons are pressed the 5vdc is passed to one of the 3 pins but not the same one. So I deduced that when the BCM sees the 5vdc gone it turns it on and when it sees 5vdc on one of the other pins it performs that function. Checked it on the other side of the clock spring and the same thing. So what am I missing.
Try sliding your foot under the brake pedal and pulling up on it. It could be your brake switch is a little out of adjustment. If the cruise works with the brake pulled up, it's the switch. This happened to me last year. Hope that helps some...
Do you mean by not turning on that the light doesn't come on the steering wheel? Did you check for vacuum leaks? The stoplight switch still could have a bad or glazed contacts for the cruise circuit. They are about $13.00 at Auto Zone. My 1997 didn't work when I bought it. I tried all the above with no success. I finally took the controller apart where the vacuum lines go into it, and flipped the diaphragm over (be careful there are some small parts inside) and it started working.
If the light comes on on the steering wheel but the cruise control doesn't work try looking at the vacuum hoses that go to the vacuum module for the cruise control underneath the drivers side battery tray. They may be deteriorated from
the battery acid. Thats what happen to mine.

I replaced the brakelight switch last night after I replaced the broken vaccume hose and the cruse still didnt work. The buttons were replaced last week. I am still haveing a problem truning it on yess the light on the wheel. When it finally turns on it won't set. It it turns on the first time the button is pressed then it will set. Starting to think the wires running up the column going to the clock spring are bad.

Just about need a scanner to test. Could be Vehicle speed sensor, cruise servo., fuse ? Scanner will show why cruise would be denied - speed, brake, or switch. Have seen the servo keep the light from coming on as well though. The light will come on, but not set. Then the light goes out. Won't come back on until key is cycled again. Those are the typical symptoms of a bad servo. If you replace it. Be VERY careful not to drop the cotter pin retainer for the cable. Real pain trying to find one that small! Takes some patience to get the cable hooked to the servo.
