I just installed my guage's. No check engine light, but key cycling I get 514. I know it wasn't there before. It's not listed on the page we all have saved. Any idea's. Thank's.

It say's there poor connection. I would guess I set the code's from disconecting the batteries,,,right. I just scanned it with my new little scanner, and it said it had 2 514 code's. So I would think it's got to be from me disconnecting the batteries. Do you agree. I cleared them, and I'll see if they come back. Thank's.

I don't know what the point of those little temperature thingy's are. I've got that code on mine (one of several that can't be read or cleared on 2 different scanners ) and my truck is running fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank's for the link. But that one say's the same thing as all the other's. His say's "Wiring, poor connection". I wonder if he just added to it a little.

If you have disconnected your batteries and then reconnected them, do not worry about the battery temperature sensor rationality code. What that tells you is that the parameters of the battery temperatures, when compared to the algorthym used to set the voltage, and the air temperature do not agree. It will not agree, as it needs to cycle a few times after most battery disconnects to bring everything back into sync.

What the battery temperature sensor does is work like a voltage cutout. If the batteries start getting hot, the sensor tells the ECM to roll back the field voltage to the alternator. Dodge has not used a true current sensing voltage regulator in years, but uses a system that measures both voltage and battery temperature to interpret the charging rate and keep the batteries from boiling dry or outgassing excessively.

Thanks for that explanation RCW. This morning my CEL was on and I had the P 0514 code. Found it on the FAQ's and remembered this thread. I have not disconnected my batteries and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what might cause it to throw this code. It wasn't as cold this morning as it has been (it was 54° this morning). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Went to go get myself some lunch and the CEL is off but the code is still there. Guess it takes a couple of starts to clear that. And it's warmed up here today. It is 85°.
