Clutch problems??

Hi, stopped for a six pack on the way home from work and the truck would not go in to gear wen I left to go home. Turned off the motor and started in gear to get home. Grinds going in to gear and when in gear I hit the clutch it slippes some but still wants to go. Is it the clutch or the slave? There was no signs of any trouble before. 2001 6 spd

Sounds like a bad master or slave. Look and see if you can see any fluid puddles in your driveway. Sometimes they fail inside but don't show any signs of leaking. I'm sure more will chime in on your problem.

I would think if it was the throwout bearing that it would be making a lot of noise, squeaking-type sound.

Saw one rip the center splines out of the disc once! Acted just like you are describing. Clutch stuck fine ( no slipping), but a bear to shift! But I would have to think easier. Slave cyl or master cyl probably. Throw out brgs. are usually pretty annoyingly loud, and should still release the clutch. You need to try and watch a few things while a buddy is pushing pedal. Get a feel for what is going on.

no noises at all just feels as though the clutch isn't down enough. I never had a slave partially work. I even tried pumping thinking it lost bleed

Yep, mine started making a horrific grinding/squeaking noise that went on forever. It still worked, but it got to the point where all the bearings came out and shifting became very difficult, as well as pushing the pedal in....shifting into gear with the truck stopped and running was not possible.

Master or slave to look at first. May have to disconnect and hook up a gage first to tell.

Don't know if this is your problem but I had one of the clutch disc torsion springs break on my old Chebby and it would not release and then would, then wouldn't, etc. ..... very intermittent. When I got it apart I discovered that the broken spring was catching the crankshaft flywheel bolts on occasion and giving me 'direct drive' This was a deal where one minute it was fine and the next minute it was as I described.

Pulled the tranny and found the pilot shaft bearring was gone. Needles were in the clutch rattling around. Not bad for 265K miles on origional clutch.
