Can A Vp44 Cause The Engine To Have Seizure Symptoms
Alright, here is my night.
I am having a horrible night and would really apprecieate some help.
I have a 98.5 dodge with edge juice and intake and exhaust.
I just got my truck out of the transdminssion sho and i was driving home.
As the truck had a week in the shop, it gave me time to brainstorm some ideas.
I wanted the hot juice function for my chip, so i called edge and got the code.
Driving home, i stopped in the middle of the road and.....well i nailed it. Got up to 60 mph, let off the gas, and the TRUCK STALLED?????.
It just stopped dead, i rolled to a stop and that was that. I tried to start the truck, and it would barley crank, like it was siezing up it cranked like the battery was dead, and it did not fire.
I let the truck sit for 5 minutes and it cranked a bit faster but still did not fire.
I let the truck sit for 10 more minutes and it cranked normal and it did not fire.
So i am sweating my ***** off, wondering what to do. I took the truck back to shop and wonder what to do.
I am thinking that my VP44 went and siezed up, Is this normal, do VP44's ever sieze up like this causing effects like this.
I pulled off the injector lines and cranked the truck over, and only one injector line was getting fuel all the others were dry, i mean dry nothing was coming out and i cranked it for a while.
The fuel pressure to the pump is 17psi, and after the vp out of the 6 lines only 1 is pushing fuel out.
What do i do, PLEASE any help would be greatly appreacieated.
The only thing that really bugs me is the siezing startup thing for 10 minutes?, do i need a new VP44?

I have read somewhere in the forums before under hard acceleration and let off that something like that can happen. I'm sorry I'm so vague but contine to do some research on here and I bet you will find what you are looking for.
A friend recently told me that he had been advised not to put a big chip on an old engine due to possible problems.
Sure sounds like fuel is not getting through the VP44. Are you taking your pressure reading off of the VP44 side of the fuel filter? If not, it could be plugged.
If you fill out your signature line with your mods it is easier for others to help you. It is under User CP -top left of page.

codes???
open the btm of the fule filter and see if it really is getting 17 psi out. if it is itll drown ya pretty quick.if it dribbles out then the gauge is wrong.
i would be checkin some grounds on the batterys as well. they cause a lot of grief on the trucks. make sure alllllllll the cables and grounds are super clean

I just got inside from working on the truck and i have some updates,.
I took off the line after the fuel pressure sensor and ....YEP ...lol she is getting for sure 18psi because i am still wet with diesel
I took off all 6 injector lines off the back of the injection pump, and cranked her over for a while, the vp is getting 18 psi. Only the bottom 3 outputs on the injection pump are putting out fuel, but they are just dripping out like one drop per second. NOTHING COMING OUT.
So basically my injection pump is pumping nothing. All 6 outputs on the back of the pump, only 3 are dribbiling, 3 are dry.
what now could it be electrical but i was floored for 10 seconds and let off real quick in #6 hot on my juice at 60 mph. Did i sieze my stock pump?

Its a long shot but cheaper than buying a new vp44, first off will the truck turn over normal now? If so i would guess you could have sheared the key on the vp44 if the timing is wrong it will cause a whole mess of problems but even than i would think some fuel would come out but its worth a shot before you order a new pump to check the shear key. By the way any codes?????

Same thing happened to me last winter. Get a 3/4 inch wrench and crack one of the injector lines going to the head and crank it over until it pumps out fuel. You willl need some one to help you. But after that crank her over and it should start. It will sound like a old John Deere tractor. I think why it happens is because it has such a high demand for fuel and all of the sudden it is gone and maybe a vacum problem or something with the fuel under high loads. Let us know if that works.
Your injection pump (VP-44 ) has seized. Talk with a diesel shop to confirm it.
If the pump was working, you would get some fuel out of each injector line.
Sorry about the bad event!!1
Do a search to confirm what I told you.

Jeez! have you tried to prime the system? Crack 1, 3, and 5 and BUMP the starter. This will make your lift pump run for ~30 seconds. If you dont have fuel by then, do it again. I have had to do this several times (4-5) to get fuel to the head.
If that dosnt work, pull the codes.
