Bosch VE rotary pump 1993

Help, my Bosch rotary pump started leaking diesel fuel out of the "Governor weight cage" retaining bolt. This bolt is directly above the 3 bolt mounting flange on the pump. It is in about the 12 o-clock position. Experts tell me that if I remove the pump and attempt to remove the bolt to replace the o-ring, the governor weight cage will fall into the pump. Has anyone attempted to repair or overhaul a VE pump? The experts seem to fix a monopoly on pump repair. I have had "horror" prices from $895 to $2200 to overhaul or replace this pump (price of pump only). I have had experience overhauling injectors on Detroit diesel engines, but haven't tried overhauling a pump yet. Where can I get an overhaul manual and special tools? Remember "knowledge is power". If you can disassemble it, it can be repaired with the proper equipment and literature. I have been a diesel mechanic for over 30 years. Get me the material, and I can do it.
Thanks, Dennis

I could not find my schematic of the 6 cylinder pump, but here is one for a 4 cylinder pump. http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/jag/vw...i/injpump.html

I have had them apart, and if memory serves me right the bolt you refer to has a copper washer under a nut, and is the power adjustment screw. As long as you do not remove the center screw the leak can be stopped with a bit of brake cleaner and some green loctite on the copper washer. Unless you are referring to the control lever shaft, and that entire housing just unbolts and lets you lift it off to gain access to the governor's gizzard.

By the way, here is a source of a manual for the VE pump. http://www.bentleypublishers.com/pro...amp;subject=25 It is not the best, but the diagrams are useful.

Thanks, I ordered the manual, your suggestion was excellent. No, it is not the power screw and I have comfirmed that the bolt indeed holds the governor and weights in place inside the pump. I found some information on the TDR website and some pictures of a pump being partly dissasembled to replace the governor weight spring. I think with this book and the website that I will be able to repair it myself. I will keep everyone informed if I succeed or really screw it up bad. 8)

How about describing your truck in your signature?

I have family down the road in Ovid, and Williamston. I think Holsteinman is close to you.

Yea, Ovid is about 8 miles away from here. Say, what is the link you posted? Another chapter of Dodge owners?

A few of us that are in the Michigan chapter of DTR. Had a meet last fall for dinner. Everybody's been too busy to meet up over the summer. We're gonna pitch in to help maintain the web sight, and try to spruce it up, such as with local travel/ sight seeing links.

that would be cool to have a Michigan chapter. I would definitly go to some of those events. It's hard to maintain contact with people all over the US. Local gatherings would be cool.
