blown head gasket
I have a 96'' 2500 ext 4x4 with a 5.9 extras include banks quick turbo high flo delivery valves #5 cam plate straite 5'' stacks i've blown 2!!! head gasket 6 months can any body help first time ext coolant leak #2 radiator and over flow filled up with oil a feind told me it was a head gasket? has any body had this problem? [deadhors]

I dont want to sound stupid but i do not understand your problem???????other then the h.gskt is blown.....what is the #2 rad about??????????

Kinda sounds to me like you are going to get the head resurfaced. At anytime during its life did it get hot? What kind of boost are you seeing? If the boost gets too high it will cause your headgasket to leak. I believe the highest you can go to with a stock gasket is about 45psi. I might be wrong about the number, but I think it is close. Let us know what kind of numbers you see on the boost gauge.

i'm getting 40-44 lbs of boost . i was saying the second time i blew, the radiator filled up with oil about 1.5 gallons .i had the head planned and checked last time they shaved .007 off. can it be shaved again? it did get hot about a week before 220' thermastat stuck but ran fine for week. thanks mike

I dont know all the formula to check ..it..but you might have to sink your valves if you get too drastic.......and at 40 lbs i am thikin your getting preety far some where....:cool:
So a GOOD machine shop will be able to tell you once you measure your deck ht what needs to be done to stay in a c.r. where you want |

Oil in galleys is much higer pressure than cooling system - so if you get a gasket blown between an oil passage and a coolant passage guess what happens. I would surmise that your blown head gasket is in such an area as to have one (or several) of the oil galleys feeding the valvetrain providing high pressure oil to get that much in the radiator.
Cleaning the cooling system will be imperative as the oil will coat the metal and does not transfer heat as readily - it may cause unwanted hot spots on cylinder walls. Also, cleaning the radiator must be done to allow proper cooling to occur as well as remove a re-contamination reservoir for the rest of the cleaned system. Good luck with it. Let us know what it turns out to be. For your sake I hope it isn't a cracked head or block. |
Oil in coolant is a lot better than coolant in oil--that usually takes the bearings and crank out in short order.
I would guess that if you're running 40+ lbs boost and a planed head, you will get to change head gaskets often. |
