Broken Front Axle!
Last night when I put my truck into 4x4 for the first time I discovered that the front passenger axle (shaft) is broken on the front of my 2500 CTD.
So I need to know where besides the ******* can I get a replacement shaft?
Also what diff is on the front? Dana 60,70? the ratio is 3.54 and the numbers on the cover tag are
52070148AG and 611054
Thanks!!!

Are you sure it is broke? The pass side is actually a 2 piece axle with a vacuum operated slide colar. But to answer your question it is a Dana 60

The front axle is a Dana 60.. Did you actually snap the axle or did you tear the U joint out of it. Have you taken it out and had a look at it yet? I would think that a wrecker would be a good place to source one.

Good Luck :-*

Jason

Re:Broken Front Axle!
Should be a Dana 60, I think. ??? Get in the phone book and call an axle and shop.
Wouldn't this be covered under warranty -100k on engine and drivetrain.
Not second guessing you but are you sure the axle is broken, there have been problems with the vaccume shift motor that engages the front axle. Just a thought!!

Re:Broken Front Axle!
I'm not sure on the vacuum motor, what I have seen and worked on there was a switch (vacuum), on top of the transfer case. there are two lines going in and two lines coming out, the two going to the front rear along the pass side frame rail could have gotten foreign debris in them if they were off, or the four lines could have popped of the switch on the transfer case. Crawl under truck running in 4x4 pull the two lines off the front rear and see if there is vacuum, there are 4 bolts that hold the vac.switch to the rear when you take those bolts out you will see zactly how it works. not to hard. get back to us.

Re:Broken Front Axle!
Hi, it turns out it was the vacuum line plug on top of the transfer case. Everything works fine now.
Thanks for the QUICK replys!
This proves once again that this is the best site for information that someone like me would never know otherwise!!

I should have checked the 4x4 sooner because last night I was trying to pull a Chevy.......which was trying to pull a Freightliner....which was trying to pull a 40' trailer which someone somehow had parked backwards next to the shop. But we did use the 2500 Sport which did the trick, and still got to give the Chevy owner a bad time!
