3.9 B-series no-start on Skid Steer

Folks,

Sorry that this is related to something other than a Dodge truck, but the camp I am working at has a late 80's 1845 C Case skid steer. The unit has 2500 hours on it, and the 3.9 non-turbo engine is the lower rated unit (around 55 bhp). The problem is as follows: The engine starts easily cold, but after being fully warmed up, it will simply crank. The only remedy is to let the unit sit for at least 30 minutes, after which is starts up with no problem. The engine does not even pretend to be interested in starting when it's cranked warm--no matter on throttle lever position.

So far they have taken apart and inspected the injection pump, a solenoid (shut off?) and the operators seat presence switch wiring. No problems found. Since this unit is basically 2/3 of a 5.9 with a smaller injection pump (rotary type) and no turbo, I figured someone would know about it. The unit runs fine when it does run, and it will idle all day without sputtering or dying. That's good, as right now that's what we have to do with it. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

make sure that there is 12 volts at the fuel solinoid when cranking it over.

next time you have a no start situation , make sure you can hear the shut off solenoid click ... could be heat related problem with soleniod
