24 valve charging problem

So I have a 98 24 valve that has a new alternator, new terminal ends, and new batterys. it will stay charged, but it doesnt charge it any more than 9 or 10 volts. im thinking it is a bad voltage regulator. so any help is appreciated. oh, it does have an engine out of a 2000, i dont know if that would affect much of the problem or not.

you might want to check the crank sensor. i'm pretty sure that it can cause a low or no charge situation.

so just to help diagnose things I just ran my own wire on a toggle to the field supply post on the alternator and it charges just fine. but the "check guages" light still comes on. I dont care too much about the truck, I think i will just put on a diffrent voltage regulator. what are your thoughts?
