06 48re problem
06 48re problem
I noticed this morning that my truck did not want to shift from 1st gear into 2nd gear. I kept stopping and accelerating until it finally shifted(about 2 miles down the road). Once it did start shifting, it would downshift to 1st gear and back to 2nd a time or two. Seems like after it warmed up it worked fine. I used the search feature and came up with some posts that seem to point towards the govenor pressure solenoid. Some called it the gov pressure transducer, gov pressure sensor and gov press solenoid. Are these three things the same?
After the trans started shifting normally it never did it again( I drove about 75 miles afterwards). I does not seem to slip at all and it accelerates fine.
Anyone have any ideas? I know I have a lot of miles on the trans(218,000) and I plan on having it rebuilt in the future but for now I would like to just find this problem and fix it myself if possible.
Thanks
Dave

Gov pressure solenoid and transducer are the two parts that chrysler sells the most.
they are not cheap either. they are on the VB and you can do it yourself if your not afraid of getting a bit dirty. But I would check the band adjustment on the outside of the trans first. If the band is loose it may not squeeze the drum enough to apply 2nd. The adj screw is on the drivers side right above the linkage. Undo the nut while holding the screw in the middle of it. Tighten the screw down to 78 INCH pounds and then back it out 1 & 1/8th turn. If that doesn't work, then go buy a gov pressure solenoid and a transducer for a couple hundred and drop the pan. They are on the VB. Or if you prefer have a tranny shop do it.
Good luck.

I agree with the Diesel Lady. Mine was doing the same thing at 42,000 miles.
I don't know if the dealer changed the solenoid, but one of the bands was stretched really bad and needed to be replaced.
Next time I have the pan off, I'm going to replace the solenoid. Find them on line for 62 dollars or so. The solenoid is said to effect 1st to 2nd shifts. Lots of threads here on the subject. Search Solenoid and it should come up.

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2007/21-009-07.htm My son is a dodge tech and he just did my truck and it shifts fine now. Dealer paid that was the best part.
