01 Dodge stalled and wont start
I have an 01 dodge ram and it stalled out and I had it towed to the local dealer. They told me that I ran out of fuel and that caused me fuel pump in the tank to burn out. They said it will cost $1400 to replace and that there is a chance that it also burned out the injector pump which could cost an additional $2500. Why does this not sound right. The fuel guage said it still had fuel and i checked the fuel filter just after it stalled and there was still fuel in there. Plus when the truck stalled it didnt stutter or sput like when it is having a fuel gelling problem. any ideas????????
Your 01 shouldn't have an in-tank pump, unless its been converted. Mine had the regular engine mounted lift-pump.
How much fuel did it "say" it had? The fuel level sending units are known to fail, I never had any trouble with mine, but many others have. Its possible you did indeed run out of fuel and it lost its prime. There would still be some fuel in the filter housing if this is the case.
Did it throw any codes or give a check engine light?

Welcome to the forum, by the way!
Do not freak out. The LP does not cost $1400, period. Just escape from the dealer, that is absolute rip-off. Even if everything there is dead, the stoc engine mounted LP is $120 and the VP44, the injection pump, is $1000. Just take your time and take care of it, do a search on this site and you will find hundreds of posts on the subject. The fuel system on 24V second gen trucks is vulnerable but you should not let it cost you $5,000.

if so i'll bet the vp 44 electronics gave up ......... check for codes, if you have 1693 which is a companion code for1688, 1689 ....... you will need a code reader to get all the codes. if you have those two, injection pump has to be replaced

transfer pump replaced now running bad
Hi all,
just got the truck back and i was told it was the lift pump. They changed the pumped and installed a conversion to a tank mounted pump (said it was better).
Truck ran fine for the first 10 miles home then i shut it off and started it the next day. Sounded real sluggish at start and smoked alot. When i tried to drive, it sputtered and had no power. Drove about 4 miles and the sputtering stopped but no power. Truck wont go past 25mph and only tachs at 1800rpm with pedal all the way to the floor...any ideas until it goes back monday
