ok so I got a small leak coming from a heater hose that connect the two metal lines that feed the heater core. It;s a small rubber hose about 2 1/2 inches long thats right next to the motor on the passenger side. And of course it's not covered by warrany, and the dealer wanted 20 bucks for a replacment. The part # is 5179114AB

Is there any special hose I need to get to replace this my self? Also how much coolant is going to come out that needs to be replaced when I pull that hose off?

 

That is the little hose between the turbo and the motor and is a dealer item only. Best bet, get it from the dealer. Sorry, I don,t have an answer for the coolant question.

 

Did you try tightening up the clamps?

Those needing snugged down seems to be a really common problem for the 06.

I think the hose was updated at some point later.

 

I will try and snug it up. I am going to snap a pict and see if it's the same hose your talking about. The hose doesnt seem to be anything special. Just a reinforced hi pressure / hi temp hose.

Edit: It doesnt seem to be connected to the turbo. But it still had a little bit of fluid on it today. The camera didn't focus on it that well but I circled it in yellow. Not going to be fun to try and get a screw driver in there.

 

I just went and looked at mine to see what you are talking about. My guess would be to get the hose from the dealer. It might just be a standard hose with the high temp sleeve over it also. Hard to tell.
I would also bet you lose a good amount of coolant. I would first try to tighten the clamps.

 

That is the hose that I refered to which also has a foil jacket. Instead of using a screwdriver, use a 1/4" ratchet with an extension and a 5/16" socket to tighten the clamps. Since it is leaking, the hose should be loosely fit on the metal line. In order to get the socket on the clamps use your hand and turn the hose and clamps around into a better position so you can get the socket on them.

 

The hose from the dealer does not have the heat wrap on it. It's just a hi temp hi pressure hose. I have a full radiator but my over flow is empty. I am going to try tightening it and see if the leak stops. If not then I guess I am going to buy a 4 dollar per inch rubber hose.

Well thats good to see that it is an ez fix and that I am not the only one that's had it happen.

I hate dealers. they tried to tell me about ,"how big of a PITA it is to change cause it wraps all the way around the engine, and blah blah blah. I was like dude are you kidding me? It's a rubber hose 2 1/2 inches long that I can see both ends of it."

Note to self, don't bother with extended warrantys either. They told me that there is a search fee of 100 dollars to findout if my warranty covered hoses. I asked *** was there a 100 dollar fee, he said it's incase they do all the work (look on the computer or call the company) and findout the hose isn't covered, and I decide I don't want to pay them to fix it. Now they "wasted all that time". Unbelieveable!

How much collant am I going to loose pulling this hose off if tightening doesn't stop the leak?

 

I'd probably spend the couple minutes to drain if you are going to pull it, but I'd bet that 2 seconds to tighten it up solves the problem.

 

HOT ****, I love this site. Did a search to see if this was posted here and viola I found it.
I have been changing oil, oil filter, fuel filter, grease the 3 points that are on the 06. Went out this AM to get the drive line greased by the transfer case and found coolant leak!!!!!!!!!!! I'm all freaked out etc. Crawling around looking here and there when I see the culprit. THE 2+ inch hose with the two worm gear clamps on it. I did not reposition the clamp nearest the firewall, but got a ratchet on it (8mm) and snugged it down, snugged the forward one too. Took a rag and dried every thing off, finished greasing the shaft, checked the leak and it was stopped. It started after I plugged in the block heater. I guess that warmed things up enough to get some pressure on the system. Now I need about a liter or less of anti freeze.
