ZF 6 speed, swaps, thoughts
What i always found interesting is the aftermarket and factory parts support of zf’s around the world over the mb g56 or the no’s when they were in business. in argentina etc the plethora of parts availability and affordability always blew my mind but what i hated was the integrated bell housing.
something that slapped me in the forehead the other day was a top kick with a gmt 560 zf 6speed. granted the rating is low but if the tail housing were swapped out for a 4x4 tail, and a nv4500 bell housing was sourced and machined to fit the rest of the guts, bearings and gears, shafts etc are no different than a S6-750 .... i was just thinking out loud but it seems that the zf 6speed with the bell housing bolt face is just the part of the equation that was missing.... one could go the destroyed route but i don’t like crank spacers.
but if one is so ambitious to want to found a s6-750 from a 6.0L or 6.4L ford and then change out the front case half for the gmt560 half obviously with some measuring and machining id be interested to see if a nv4500 bell housing would be the ticket to keeping the dodge slave, clutch fork etc and getting around the various custom swap parts.... with nv5600 parts becoming costly i sparked my interest. nothing more
GM part No is 12575322, ZF part #1319050052.

Uses a crank spacer. Ford hydraulic slave cylinder and ford clutch fork/ throwout and I believe the shift tower is further forward ..... It is a good option. I was intregiued by the non integrated bell of this variation of the zf

I use one with my 12V it seems the gear ratios are a little off for the 12V. the 6.0 normally revs a lot higher so I think the ratios are for a higher reving engine

The RPM difference between each is pretty minimal like less than 100 rpm in most gears. id bet you have a gear ratio rear end and tire relationship issue
Of the 3 6 speeds 2nd gear was .08 off from the nv5600. much like a t18 vs a no435 6.32 vs 6.69 its tough to notice the difference
where i find a difference is the il pump ion the
OD gear and the 3 main bearings. its an interesting design with better part support behind it. can it be adaptered easily is the question the ratios are less than 100 rpm off from one another
The dodge options are much better in reverse than the zf but thats what 2wd low is for
