I mean I am reasonably careful when I fuel up, but by the looks of the average diesel pump others must be real slobs...what's up with this?

I think the truckers let it flow while they get a big gulp and some chips, and sometimes it doesn't stop in time.

I've wiped dirt & grit off the end of the nozzle numerous times at the local FlyingJ....at the non-commercial diesel pumps no less.
Are people laying these on the ground or something?

Gasoline evaporates. Diesel leaves an oily residue that attracts dust and grime.

If gasoline was as oily as diesel and didn't evaporate, theirs would be just as bad.

I figured the Duramaxipads would soak all the stuff up off the ground.

This is why gas is the fuel of choice for car makers, and because it does not gell in the winter, holds less water, easier to start if you run the vehicle out.

If I ever see a clean diesel pump, I'd probably think twice about fueling there.
