Put me in the catagory of "It's a Cummins with a Dodge wrapped around it"
Never having had a truck with a diesel engine I knew one thing for sure.....I wanted a 1-ton truck made for heavy towing and it had to have a Cummins Diesel engine.
I have owned six trucks since 1976 and only one was a Dodge...hated it and couldn't wait to get rid of it. When it came time to get a new, heavier truck Dodge won out because of the Cummins...period.

I bought my truck to haul a toyhauler. I wanted the Cummins and a 6 speed 4x4. I looked for several months before I found the right truck. I fixed a few things along the way (steering), but I am happy with it. Anytime I have to drive somewhere, I always want to take my truck vs the other 3 vehicles. I like driving it. Having some power under my foot makes driving much more fun.

Best of both worlds for me. I like the Dodge truck and the Cummins engine. It was also a monetary decision to buy a diesel truck. I got tired of spending the car allowance on a perpetual car note for a gasser. Hopefully, this truck will get me to retirement! Ed B

Liked the way the Dodge looked, but more importantly, I wanted the Cummins. So, if I would have had my choice in 06 of a Ford with a Cummins, a Chevy with a Dmax, and a Dodge with a Flowerstroke, I would have picked the the Ford with the Cummins cause the motor was number one for me.

Because the 01 never let me sit and the 06 hasn't yet. The quad cab longbox has done everything and suited my needs perfectly. Oh, and I like to hear the purr of my common rail too. I do miss the rattle of the 01 though.
I'll admit, if the Cummins was in a Ford, Id still avoid it due to my bad luck with Fords. Not that I don't like the Fords, its just every Ford I buy just goes to poop. A buddy of mine has the same problem, he loves his Fords and every GM product hes own goes to poop. Weird how that works.
Have a good one.

I've never been a big fan of Dodge trucks, and I'm still not. The Cummins is the only reason I own this truck, and I'd jump ship in a heartbeat if Ford put a real motor in their trucks.

Mybuddy had an '03 that I really liked and the way it towed the boat. I bought an '06. I am no longer towing a heavy boat and the only reason I still have the truck is I owe too much on it to get rid of it. I will go back to a Ford F-150 FX4 4x4.

I own mine because it's a Dodge and because it's got a Cummins. If Dodge didn't offer a Cummins I'd own a 1/2 ton Dodge and get a medium duty truck with a Cummins to handle my towing and farm work needs. Would it be overkill? You bet, but I just do not trust V8 diesels, like those that are offered by Ford and Chevy. I also like how Dodge trucks are built and ride like trucks. My dads 84 W250 is still in better shape than my buddy's 02 Chevy Dmax, and the 84 spent most of it's life hauling hogs and being a farm truck. Just one guys views though.

I bought for the Cummmins, but I've come to develop a liking for the wrapper it came in. It may not have all the bells and whistles that you can get with some the other brands, but it's a good, solid dependable truck. and that's exactly what I was looking for, a truck, not an an overstuffed living room with a diesel engine.

For me, best of both worlds. Dodge and Cummins. I had a Ford diesel, POS. It seemed my Dodges (gas or diesel) would always outwork a Ford or Chevy.
My real trucks
1950 "Job Rated" 250 flat head.
1981 440 W250
1991 W250 IC CTD
Toy
1979 LUV with a Ford V6 transplant
Bad joke
1984 F250 Navstar

madhat nailed it perfectly...
Please elaborate
I own mine because I knew about the Cummins... I had a half ton Z-71 that was not worth a dang if you put any weight in it.
I do not think that I would buy a Ford if it had a Cummins... I dunno. If it was set up under the hood the same way the Dodge is... maybe.
I would defiantly not be driving a Dodge if it had a powerstroke. I used to be a Chevy man, if Cummins got out of the light truck market, I'd probably go back to them.
