Whos the Fastest?

Ok Im not trying to start a war or anything just want to post somthing I found interesting.
I have heard for sometime now how "those Duramaxs and Powerstrokes are fast off the line empty" and realy didnt understand how they could be so much faster than the CTD but since I have never driven one I accepted it as gospel (info from this site sofar has been #1) Any way the other day I was leafing thru the March issue of Truckin and at the back noticed a page called Truckin's Performance Database in which there is a list of over 50 truck tests they have done and heres what they say.

04 GMC Sierra 2500HD
$47,583
6.6l Duramax
325@3000
590@1600
5 speed Alison
8.99 ~0-60
16.93 @81.34mph ~ 1/4 mile
154.37 ~60-0

04 Ford f-250 Harley Davidson
$48'825
6.0l Power Stroke
325@3300
560@2000
Five Speed Auto
8.95 ~0-60
16.83 @82.81~ 1/4 mile
150.90 ~60-0

04 Dodge Ran Heavy Duty
$44.445
5.9lCTD
325 @2900
600@1600
Five Speed Auto
8.85 ~0-60
16.80 @80.58~1/4mile
138.6 ~60-0
As I leafed thru this mag I noticed very little exposure to Dodge, it seemed 90% of the articals were on Gms and Fords so I was suprised to see this in print. I know in some cases mags are biased as to how they do tests to end up with the results they want but... It seems that the opinion that the Duramax and Powerstrokes are "fast" was based on a seat of the pants kinda deal? Anyway thats enough babling from me now.

i think the showroom trucks are overblown. see sig. of my 15 year old with the fuel challenged ve pump. been fooling around with racing since 1961 and have learned one thing though. no matter how quick one is there will always be someone faster

These bad boys (Cummins/Dodge) trucks are built to work. Meaning towing heavy and hauling heavy loads. If I wanted a 1/4 machine I would have gotten a gasser!!!

dorkweed did you never want to be different just for the sake of being different. not a flame. i have always been one that if one told me i cant i want to know why. the power is there in the ctd . with the money i believe cube for cube the diesel will run with or better the gasser.

I agree Jughead, but when you go all the way back to the drawing board; these engines are designed to haul and tow heavy loads. Don't get me wrong, I love the looks on the sports car guys faces' when you run with them. They don't expect it. They may be faster in the quarter, but I can pull their house off its foundation when I'm done!!!

That's for sure. I was driving east bound up to the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 recently and a Subaru WRX was blasting by. I decided to see how I fared. I pulled up on him going 95 at 10,000 ft. His buddy looked over and told the driver something like "You have company". The driver tooked over his shoulder real quick giving me a "What the @@@K?" look. I smiled back at him. He was very slowly pulling away as we caught up to traffic and slowed down. Pretty funny.

So I pass two or three car haulers on the way to Birmingham and while I am unloading, the new Duramax GMC driver comes over and asks "What the H are you running in that thing." I did not know he was trying to keep up with me and I was just cruising. Course I'm not stock, but its still a B Cummins. With a load, the Duramax nor the 6.0 are that powerful.

I personally think they are all purpose trucks, and thats how i use mine. I drag race, i haul loads, and i daily drive it. There is no other truck that could possibly fit my needs better
