Re:What oil are you guys using?

For dino oils, I favor the Delo. I think it's the leading edge of dino tech. No doubt that rotella and PB have also made good names for themselves.

I used Delo, Redline, and now PB extreme. Loved the Delo, ran it until I was broken in. Loved the Redline, but not the $30/gallon price. Like the PB extreme, but the engine seemed happier with the 15-40 oils (less clatter).

If money weren't an object, I'd use the RL all the time-- it was nice to have 2psi more boost and 1.5 more mpg throughout. But it's FIVE times more than a dino oil. And TWICE that over even other synthetics. It's hard to say it's worth that much.

My neighbor has an '01 ETH/DEE that has 186K on it. Always uses Rotella, and gets 25mpg on the fwy.

Never used Amsoil in my CTD, but I woudn't hesitate. I had good luck with it in gassers.

I still haven't settled on which oil I will end up using.

Justin

Re:What oil are you guys using?

" A lot of my friends usr Rotella T and change every 3000-5000 miles, while I have one co-worker using Mobil 1 synthetic and changing every 20000 miles. What are you guys using and doing." Dauntless

Mobil 1 oil, while approved for autos, is NOT approved for truck diesel engines. Read the labeling on the container and compare to other oils known to be approved for truck diesel engines. Does Mobil 1 list approval from your engine mfgr as printed in your owners manual? There are very few true synthetic oils, Most are just dressed up dyno oil. Amsoil is the most well known true synthetic oil.

Ray,

Mobile Delvac 1 is, without a doubt, a premium quality group 4 fully synthetic oil formulated exclusively from Polyalphaolefin and ester synthetic basestocks. This oil is engineered specifically for use in heavy duty diesel applications such as the CTD and many others....
