What oil are you guys using?
Re:What oil are you guys using?
To the readers of this forum, Amsoil corporation and its subsidiaries: I wish to sincerely apologize for misstating the viscosity of the Amsoil Series 3000 motor oil. As many of the outraged, misled public probably already know, on Nov. 23 of this year, I claimed it to be a 5w40 grade when in fact it is a 5w30. It was not my intention to cause harm to Amsoil corporation, its vast distribution network, or other owners of Cummins ISB engines.
Still great friggin' oil.

Re:What oil are you guys using?
I'm happy with the Amsoil HD Diesel/Marine 15W-40. Maybe if I was way up North, I'd use something thinner.
Amsoil 5W-30 (ASL) is in my tranny.

Re:What oil are you guys using?
WIX really?? Not sure if you know or not, Ive heard of engine failures due to this brand of oil filter...if you scroll down this list you'll see most guys are using Fleetguard. Im not trying to start a war here...just wanted to make sure that you know.

I have heard that, too...but I do know a few that are using them and are happy. It would be nice if those that have had problems would post the info...such as frequency of changes, etc.

Re:What oil are you guys using?
I traded e-mails with a guy on here that dropped #6 piston (clogged piston cooling ports....imagine that...). The failure was attributed to the Wix oil filter.....I believe he said that he changed oil every 5 k...I just dont understand people that will risk their engine to save a couple of bucks on an oil filter. It doenst add up to me. I dont buy the "cant find a Fleetguard" excuse either....they are everywhere, and if they're not, you can mail order them. They deliver them right to your door....what could be easier???
Re:What oil are you guys using?
I use NAPA 15w40 fleet plus. Made by Valvoline.
As far as filters, I use NAPA filters too.
Have always had good luck with both in all the trucks and equipment.

Re:What oil are you guys using?
Valvoline Premium Blue w/ fleetgaurd filters currently at 16K
As soon as I get 25K-30K I will switch to Amsoil 15w-40 and Amsoil filters and then as money(the wife) permits I am adding the dual bypass system and never change the oil again

I'm impressed, this thread hasn't gone to the point where I have to put on my welding shield to open it up and use the fire proof screen overlay. Good work guys, keep it up.
