Actually, I planning on driving my present truck until I no longer need a big, powerful truck. If my current pride and joy doesn't last, or I'm ever able to afford a new truck, I'd probably drive whatever pickup Cummins would end up going to. I do love my Dodge, though.

I think the bigger question is; what would Dodge do about its lost market share. I don't think they would sell many diesels after that. I know I wouldn’t buy anything else.

 

There's that nasty rumor floating around about Dodge doing away w/ the Cummins and getting a contract w/ another diesel engine manufacturer. Any truth to that?

I personally could care less it the two parties split, I have the truck I want and do not like the current offering from Dodge. To me Dodge has been a dis-appointment, they really let me down with there newest generation of pick-up, I expected more from them. The new 3500 DRW 4-door truck is just plain ugly, it it is really ugly in the std cab version. The paint and materials are not a good as the other top manufacturers, and frankly I think they stay in business because of Cummins. I would actually like to see Ford get the Cummins, weather it be them solely or with both Dodge and Ford sharing the same engine. The competition would be good for Dodge, and maybe force them to build a better looking and functioning truck.

 

Doubtful. They're more likely to stay in business because of the "Hemi" than the Cummins. The average Joe Light Truck Shopper sees 6 cylinders and the whopping option charge, then looks at the alternative, "Oooooo, it's a Hemi.....". You know the rest.....

 

Cummins has a contract to supply diesels thru the '07 model year...

Will DC stay with Cummins after contract expires?
Or will DC want to put their proprietary Mercedes diesels in their trucks?

Look at how DC dropped Dana axles for American axles...

It's all in the bean counters, and how much profit DC can make- there's no loyalty to suppliers anymore.
