weight of GM 6.2 diesel?

I am curious what a 6.2 diesel weighs in comparison to a 5.9 cummins. I know they put the 6.2 in half ton shortbed trucks. I really want to build a 1/2 ton shortbed dodge or chevy with a cummins/727 combo to play with. Having trouble finding a shortbed dodge in good condition in my area but chevys seem to grow on trees.

i want to think they are around 750-800 lbs.i don't think i'd put a 5.9 in a 1/2 ton.if anything i'd get a 3/4 ton and shorten it for the short box.

My dad is the original owner of an 84 chevy 1/2 ton with the 6.2 in it. has around 250,000 reasonabley trouble free miles on it. Back to the topic. The 1/2 ton trucks with the 6.2 in them had 3/4 ton front springs to help with the additional weight. At least thats what i have been lead to balive over the years. I know his 1/2 ton rides a lot rougher than an equivelant gasser so it is at least sprung heavier than a normal gasser 1/2 ton. If you could find a diesel truck to start with it may make it eisier. I dont think they however made short box diesels but I may be wrong, ive just never seen one. May have to swap springs from one truck to the other to make it work. Something else to consider is an old K5 Blazer that had the diesel in it. Would be a short wheel base with the heavier springs if all your after is the shorter wheel base.

I am wondering this also. So I ran a google search and got these figures:

2001 Duramax 6600: Dry weight - 835 lbs.

New Euro 3-ISB 5.9L Cummins: Dry weight - 1034 lbs.

Another indication of a better motor over the Duramax. (That's why I was curious to know).

i also had an 84 1/2 ton 2wd,and it did use larger front wheels bearings then a regular 1/2.as for a short box.the only one i have ever seen was an 80 with the 5.7 it was a shortbox stepside with dual tanks.it's still running around town here.i see it from time to time, and it still sounds like it has a 5.7 in it.

1/2 ton diesel

if you are not going to tow the extra weight will be ok. check gross axle weights on the door frame. it will be a little nose heavy, but unless one is doing circle track racing who cares. see my sig.
