Wastegate adjustments for Powerstroke

Dualtandem has a question about his Garret charger. First of all, he is seeing 20 to 25 lbs of boost. When this happens, his check engine light comes on. No more boost. I am not familiar
with the Ford systems. Is this right, or is something wrong. My stock charger is cranking an easy 35 and up lbs.
What gives with the ford? Also, how can the wastegate be adjusted on the garret turbo? ???

Re:Wastegate adjustments for Powerstroke

First gear and can get about 20 psi.2nd i hit 25. 3rd I hit 30 and after that it stays at 30psi. With The chip I have it came with a extending tube for the hose that connects to the wastegate.it extends it about 2". also i had to ground a wire so it wouldnt trip the check engine light. But when i pull a trailer and get pass 20psi sometimes it will turn on. But it doesnt do anything i can still spool to 30psi. So when the chek engine light comes on it doesnt mean anything its just saying that your boost is higher than the stock. Hope I answer your question. If not let me know.

There system is setup similar to ours in regard to factory boost levels. If you boost over 20 psi stock on a Dodge, it sets an Overboost code and turns on the check engine light. My truck however spits out 22psi solid with the wastgate unclamped (it's clamped for use with the Comp) without setting a code. I don't know how to adjust the wastegate on there. All I can say is that have fun doing it cause I know that it ain't gonna be easy.

SPD03, what wire did you ground? Maybe this guy can ground the same wire and fix his check engine light problem.

Try searching the Ford sites..

FWIW This can be a problem if you get over 27 Psi boost on the stock turbo. They have a tendency to self destruct at those boost levels. PSDKLONE on this site has had more experience with turbos on his PSD.

J-eh

Hired Gun
I can send you a pic of the wastegate extend tube a the wire that I grounded. Try grounding the wire first. You dont really need that extend piece but i just but it cause it sounds cool when i let off after 25psi. ;D
SD03
