V-6 Diesel in a Ford, and it could be a Cummins...
From today's Autotech Daily:
V-6 DIESEL PROGRAM MAY BE BACK ON AT FORD
Ford Motor Co. is reviving plans to offer a V-6 diesel engine in its light-duty truck lineup, reports Automotive News. It says executives told Ford dealers the Expedition SUV and F-150 pickup would include a diesel option sometime after 2007 when the U.S. mandates the use of low-sulfur diesel fuels to meet more stringent emissions standards. It’s not clear who would produce the new powerplant. Ford had been working with Navistar International Corp. on a 4.5-liter V-6 diesel that was to have bowed on the F-150 two years ago. But that project was killed due to cost overruns and concerns about the engine’s emissions system. Ford eventually agreed to compensate Navistar for development costs and a new plant the supplier erected to produce the engine. Navistar still supplies the 6.0-liter PowerStroke diesel used in the highly profitable F-Series Super Duty pickups. But relations between the two companies were soured by the aborted V-6 program and a problem with the V-8 engine’s fuel injector that forced Ford to repurchase some 500 vehicles last year. Rival Cummins Inc. appears to be the leading contender if Ford opts not to go with Navistar. Cummins, which supplies the 5.9-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine used in Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickup trucks, is looking for new customers for a V-6 engine it is developing. In addition to the F-150 and Expedition, Ford also is considering using a diesel engine in future Lincoln Navigator SUVs. The company hasn’t officially confirmed the V-6 program is back on, but executives acknowledge that compression-ignition systems are a natural for full-size trucks. Other automakers seem to agree. AN points out that Nissan and Toyota likely will offer diesels in their Titan and Tundra pickups by the end of the decade, and that General Motors also has plans for a V-6 diesel truck engine.

Wouldnt it be cool if Navistar and Ford broke off thier relationship due to bad blood over the 6.0L & V-6, and went with a Cummins powered diesel (not the 5.9, but maybe something else). That would be the bomb man!! Cummins would have the market cornered!
If I were Cummins, I would implant someone to start a fight between the two, and when they split up, I would show up at ford's back door with jam-up diesel for thier pick-up...........lol..im full of it.

I don't care what Cummins and Ford does as long as I can still buy my Dodge Cummins powered trucks I will be happy. I'm sorry but I'm not driveing a Cummins powered Ford. The engine would be great but in a ugly under built wrapper? no thanks.

Some of the Latin America markets get a small 4 cylinder Cummins engines in their half ton trucks. I often wondered why they didn't market them up here. A SUV with a small diesel in it should sell, plus you wouldn't have to listen to the greenies whine about you "Gas guzzling monster Suv's"
Has anybody seen this:
Jeep Rescue - What A Concept!
Jeep has unveiled an all new concept vehicle designed to run over the harshest, most daunting terrains. The Jeep Rescue is a new level of Jeep designed for the most extreme off-road conditions, and it's powered by a Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. (Read more)
This would be MORE fun than the Ford or Chevy. They say the engine is the 5.9 inline 6
