U joint broke and broke transfer case.

My u-joint on the front drive shaft broke, hit the ground, and ended up breaking the transfer case. Anyone have a place to buy another transfer case in Maryland?

Yours is #2, wow!

See here: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e-t259754.html

Good luck!

Great! Is there a direct replacement that will simply bolt up or do I have to find the exact one I have now?

Yep. Happened to me Friday night. Autozone sells remanufactured 241's.
My u-joint didn't break- it looks like I lost the bolts. But, when it came loose, it hit the side of the case and punched a big hole in it. I can drive it in 2WD, but there are nasty noises coming from in the case.

I had the same thing happen to me after I had the front driveshaft rebuilt. It threw parts of the transfer case out so had that they bounced off the trailer it was pulling and put a hole in the boxside just above the tail light. I put a new mopar transfer case and driveshaft in mine.

Fixed. I cant believe how small the transfer cases are. I was also shocked to find out that I have light duty transfer case (241DLD) in my truck. Oh well its up and running now.

Read some of the other posts about broken transfer cases. The 241LD, from what I understand, is up to the task. It is rated to handle over 5500 lb ft of torque. I am putting a LD back in mine, and am not concerned.

I just found this after posting my own carnage!! Misery loves company!!

Ok guys after melting all the snow and ice that was packed up in around the T-case with the little Lp torch I see that the bolts backed out and let the front shaft go and smack the very bottom corner and took out a small hole the size of a nickle. The thing is I would say all is well inside the case. I stuffed a Mcdonalds plastic bag in the hole, threw in some fluid and off the house I went. What can I do patch the hole ? Silicone ? Jb Weld ?

Where did you get that information ? I highly doubt it.

Its easier to read this way.

What's the verdict? Will silicone seal this up, or is there some flex that I am not considering? Mine has a crack, not a hole, but was caused by the same offending/flailing driveshaft[duhhh]

Onemoparnut 12-25-2009 08:28 PM

I would have it welded up it is more of a permanent fix.

I would say your right. I just can't get past the thought of putting money into a case (dld) that people are having trouble with. If it was a dhd then I wouldn't think much about it.
