toyota skid steer?
toyota skid steer?
i found a pretty good deal on a toyota skid steer. looks almost identical to a case 1840.
the only issue is, the owner claims it has been sitting for a year, and the engine is "stuck"
i might take a look at this afternoon, but what should i be looking for?
if disengage the hydraulic pump, what else can i do to take load off the engine to try and free it up?
any ideas?

I don't think removing the hydraulic pump will aid in trying to get the engine to turn over a time or two. I believe most have an open system. The only reason the pump might interfere with starting would be if it's locked.
A freind of mine got his hands on an older Hydromack 6c (ity bity dorewayskidloader) for free with a stuck motor. He put ATF in the cylinders and let it sit a few days then put a big breaker bar on the crank and broke it loose. He had to turn it over several times buy hand before the starter would turn it but adventualy he got it started and it ran anouther year or 2 before it completely poped. Then he just replaced the engine and sold it. Now he has a bigger skid that apears to be a very old Gehl(no stickers or name plates and home made paint job). It had a Wisconsin in it that ran but barely had enough power to move itself so we just got done last week replacing the old Wisconsin 19hp with a 4cylinder Mercedies diesel out of a Theremo King unit. Its somewhere around 40 horse now and it makes a nice skidloader out of it. We had a budie of his that ownes a machine shop build a adapter to bolt the hydro pump to the Mercedies. He had to add a radiator but now its one very nice skidloader. The skidloader is about the size of a 6 or 7 series Bobcat. He has around $700 total in the thing including inital purchase. If ya can get the skidloader for cheap and the engine is stuck beond salvage you may be able to do like he did and find a donor motor out of something along the lines of the thermoking.

i really dont need anything shiney and new, just for some small chores. but everything that starts and doesnt blow fluid all over , people want 5 grand for.
either way i passed on it. not interested in another project.
