So with all the new light duty diesels coming out...
who is amazed at the numbers they put out?? in 2001 i had a 93 F250 with a 460. it was rated at 390 ftlbs.. seemed like i could pull anything
it had tons of power. then i put it on 35's and STILL had power.. i was amazed.
with all these new trucks coming out, who will buy one? seems to me that a 1/2 ton with the same power is going to be a popular package.. now maybe this doesn't apply to a lot of people on this board, or maybe it does but it seems like a lot of people have a 3/4 ton just because of the diesel. they dont tow anything so it seems like a 1/2 ton will appeal to a lot of people.
i tow 2-3 times a month on my 350 mile adventure so i use my 3/4 ton.
so will this make the 2500/3500s more or less? thinking economics here, hoping the bigger trucks will come down in price. you know the 1/2's will be as much as a 1 ton right?

A current CTD, Duramax or PSD in a half-ton is overkill, so half-ton diesels appear to be getting smaller engines. And I have my doubts about the power ratings being touted for these smaller powerplants once emission controls are in place.
If engines aren't shared, I don't see any cost reductions for the heavier-duty motors.

If some of the hp/tq figures being thrown out now are correct, I will definately be looking at a smaller diesel next time around. Stock, for the baby DMax is moer than my LB7 (stock). Should make for a good tire shreddin' truck. Plus I only pull about 4klbs. Just bought the diesel for the fuel economy (and 'cause it's cool!).
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

In some ways I agree, but realistically I do not use the capacity (both towing and weight) of the 3/4 ton very much. Have owned two Dakota's in the past and liked them, so if the Dakota came out with a QC, diesel engine 4X4 and a manual tranni, I would seriously consider getting one.

If I didn't think diesels sounded so cool and they didn't get decent fuel mileage, I would have a Chevy 1/2 with a 5.3.
I almost bought one before my current truck, but I could only afford an extended cab. The dealership I went to was way too proud of their new 1/2 ton crew cab Chevys.
