Scale Weight - Curb Weight Question

Hey all, so I have been running into an issue where someone is complaining my 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 with cummins engine is too heavy for the property. The internet says the curb weight of the truck is over 5000 lbs.

Yesterday I took the truck to an MTO scale and the scale read the truck as 1350kg which is just over 2900 lbs.

Why do the auto websites list the truck over 5000 and is there a site that actually lists the correct weight such as what the MTO scale reads?

Did the scale weigh the whole vehicle or just one axle because 2900lbs isn't correct for the vehicle weight. Just the Cummins engine alone weighs in over 1k lbs.

Somebody screwed up.....the Cummins alone weighs 1500 lbs...

2900 lbs? a mid size car weighs more than that.....

Ram lists the 2013 2500 curb weight at 7,667 lbs according to Edmunds.com http://www.edmunds.com/ram/3500/2013...est-specs.html

Depending on options yours could weigh a little more or less.....

Thats what is throwing me off. The scale read 1350kg and it was an MTO scale for transport trucks so I believe its accurate.

Yep, you were measuring 1 axle.

My 97 scales right at 7800.

I am curious as to how someone determined it was too heavy for their property...... Someone doesn't like you?

Heck, my 93 foxbody was around 3K.

I assume the property has a small private bridge?

My '86 Porsche 944 was 3300 pounds ..... you're weighing one axle at a time, or that scale is really messed up.

Turns out the scale was broken. Went to a different scale today and the truck is 7000 lbs

As for the other questions. I have no idea why but the condo I just bought has a rule that vehicles in the underground parking can not be over 3500 lbs. The height of the garage is 6'8" so I have plenty of clearance room. Its just the weight and I can't figure out why. Its all a single floor.

Here is the best part... I paid $30,000 for my parking spot in the underground that they are telling me I cant use for my truck....

Well that pretty much rules out any full size and luxury automobiles too. Most are over 4k lbs.

Check out to see if there are any Honda Accords, Chevy Malibus, Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Impala, for grins, see if there are any of them fancy crossovers......

Then let the condo association know that you will be suing them for the 30K, because each and every one of those models is over 3500 lbs base curb weight.

Sounds like the typical snob Condo creep crowd.

I echo what Pat said.

Go through the lot when you can and write down the make of any vehicle that either has four doors or is an SUV/Crossover/Mini-van. Google the curb weights and bring it to the Condo association. If the person telling you this lives there I'd check their vehicle first.

Shoot, my wifes Hyundai Sonata is at 3500lbs.
So, there isn't anything under the parking garage, right?
They should have disclosed any restrictions on anything BEFORE you bought.
If they didn't, then tell them they are SOL. They can always buy it back from you for $50,000. I'm sure a attorney would give you a free first meeting. H*ll, just tell the condo place you are going to discuss it with a attorney and they may change their tune.
If you think about it, your truck weights the same as the cars compared to size.
The truck is twice the length as a car, and weights twice as much. So in the end, it's the same.

Usually it is because of driving over the underground parking. So I not sure what the problem is if you do not have to drive over the underground parking.

9 years ago I lived in a high rise that had similar rule about parking and absolutely no trucks were allowed in or over the underground parking. They said it was structurally unsafe and violated building codes.
