Rant on diesel owners who make us look bad

I hope none of these are members here.

#1 Once or twice a week during my commute home on Highway 4 I witness a 1st Gen Flatbed that drives with a smoke switch or comparable device constantly on in stop-and-go traffic leaving commuters in thick black clouds as large as several vehicles. You're not cool.

#2 3rd gen, White with approximately 8" lift who cuts off people from the right turn lane at the limit line at 10th and L st. when the signal turns green. Don't be a jerk, get in line like the rest of us and wait your turn. Last night the van you cut off had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting you which almost caused me to rear-end the car in front of me.

I'm sorta' guilty of #2. It's not a right-turn lane in my case, but it ends within a block. Plenty of time for the big C to get wound up and pass anybody caught sleeping in the left lane when the light turns green. [guitar]

I don't have a problem with what you describe if it's a straight lane, you're supposed to fill the lanes that are open.

Some people think a smoking diesel looks cool.
Most people look at them and feel sorry for the poor guy who can't afford to fix his truck.
Pretty much the opposite reaction they think they're going to get.

Doesn't matter what type of motorsports that you are in too, there's gonna be folks that make the whole sport look bad. Whether it's diesel, ATVs, dirtbikes, ORVs, marine, horseback riders (well maybe not that one so much but ya catch my drift.)

Well I'll tell ya son (hooking thumbs thru suspenders),I went Cherry pickin out in Brentwood a couple o' weeks ago,and it is no better on the weekends than during the week. The State should be sued for malfeasance for issuing licenses to folks who cannot read or understand the "rules of the road"!Of course you could have picked a safe and sane area in which to reside but nooooooooooo you just hadda pick Hwy 4.[laugh]Try leaving the fairgrounds parking lot after the races, just as bad and were only doing 1/3 miles per.[coffee]

I can't #2ers. They do that a lot here, everywhere.

Still working on my desintegrater ray.

[laugh] You should see the exits to the Texas Motor Speedway lot here. You can retread a tire with the amount of rubber laid out on the road. Yeah Yeah everyone's a race car driver now.

I have to agree. Lots of smoke just gets new laws passed, and driving like your the only one ain't cool either.

I'm pretty sure there are a few members here that are guilty of smoking people out, but aren't man enough to admit to it.

I for one don't do it cause it's chicken poop.

wytesyko 06-22-2012 05:16 PM

Oh I will be the first to admit that I have smoked people out before, but I only do it to those who deserve it....The tailgaters, the people who drive like aholes and the annoying powerjoke guys who always want to race. I mean really does anyone notice its ALWAYS a Ford guy?!?! I never have problems with duramax guys or other Cummins owners always Ferds.....Also my quad rolls coal.....

I usually puff at the vehicle pacing in my right rear quarter. Hate tag-alongs.

Are you out at the track often? We usually only go when the 360's and 410's are out here. Wife's uncle used to pit for Steve Kent, but I've always been a fan of the Kaeding clan.

While I was typing this up I opened the Speedway webpage to see the schedule. KotW IS TOMORROW!!! I WORK!!! Outlaws are coming 09/10! $35.00 per ticket. My daughter's friend is going to start racing soon with her father so we'll probably start going more frequently.

Last time we went my son busted his chin on the seat in front of us while under caution with 5 laps left in the main. [verymad] Stupid food shack refused to give us ice even though he was standing in front of them bleeding everywhere.

Like others have posted, I have occasionally smoked out those maroons that really deserved it. Other than that, if I feel the need to waste my fuel, I do so on a deserted street. I feel you on the fact a few bad apples ruin the whole bunch. Hopefully parents will stop buying their kids high-end diesel trucks (3rd gen Dodges more or less) and giving them a Smarty for their birthday.

I, for one, don't like the stringent EPA rules and regs but I know they are implemented for a reason, and that's a good thing, don't get me wrong. Folks really should leave the huge clouds for the race/sled track.

I was just behind a dodge (lifted, one huge chrome stack and all sorts of stickers/crap in the windows) making a left from northbound avondale onto west I-10. He was trying to catch and impress a couple of other diesel drivers ahead of him. It smoked so heavy it blacked out all of the 5 or 6 lanes of the hiway and it didn't even run very good. I don't get how anyone could be proud of looking like such an idiot! Craig

With the news in the past week that "Diesel Smoke Causes Cancer", look for the locals everywhere to start DEMANDING that intentional 'smokers' get stopped and fined (at the least, or impounded pending a criminal trial for 'assault').
Or 'hotlines' will be setup in local communities to report violaters.
..and don't forget,... traffic cameras, and camera phone users are EVERWHERE........

We have met the enemy and he is us.
