Just in case there was any confusion.

I have always been a dodge ram fan, ever since i pulled my first one out of the woods in 2002, it was a 1985 d-100 with a leaning tower of power and granny geared 4 speed. I put 68k on the truck before i drove through a hair storm and punctured the radiator. That was the end of it , ran the truck dry, seized the water pump and boiled the oil to a crisp. After letting the motor cool and driving another 20 miles it was in a friends driveway. We were wondering what to do with this thing since it was still dirveable:confused:[duhhh]

I would have fixed the radiator and drove it some more. The older cast iron Mopar engines are pretty good about letting them sit and cool off. 9 times out of 10, you can refill it WHEN IT'S COOL and generally it will still be a good engine, albeit the life of the engine will be shortened. I've seen guys fill it while it's still running and you can hear the block go "snap, crackle, pop" and parts fall off.

I have love for my overbuilt and underrated trucks. My first Ram was a D50. Put 350K miles on it. Gave it to a buddy. Ran another 50K before a drunk driver took it out. The 4G52 motor was hella easy to work on.

I did try that, the seals in the engine were shot, oil came out the front and rear main seals and leaked from every valve seal into the motor, so as long as there was no oil i could drive it 30 minutes to where i needed to be with a 15-20 break inbetween driving. Went to maryland and back to pa 3 times before i didn't move it in time and the septa police towed it away and at that point i was basically homeless and had to let it go... along with a fantastic caprice that pulled more Gs than my cummins does now.
