The problem with the pushbutton shifter was that people would do like my grandma, shut the car off and forget to put it in park, and it would roll off into the milkhouse.

I always set the brake and then slid that lever down whatever that was.
I drag raced my neighbor with his 65 Chevy w/Powerglide. Torqueflite 3-speed killed him.

KISS - Keep it simple stupid!

I learned that a long time ago. I am near the point now where I may look for a garage kept One Ton Oldie that is simple cheap and easy to fix with items I can run down to NAPA to get.

If I want new technology I can throw in a fuel injected create engine and custom tranny and drive it till the doors fall off.

The slant 6 was supposed to be an open-deck, aluminum block, steel-sleeved engine for weight savings. They couldn't get the aluminum to flow in the molds properly so they shaved the scallops out of the molds and ran them in cast iron. That was supposed to be temporary, but they couldn't get the aluminum working so they stuck with the cast.

There's probably half again the iron in them that they really need.
