i love towing with my single wheel truck no issues, feels fine but i'm building a crew cab dually 4x4 for my more work truck because it will be that much better to tow with,
and my white SRW had no overloads 1 ton now has "some"(link)
and my blue 3/4 ton has factory overloads

Prefer a Dually

I prefer a dually when hauling our bigger stock trailer and when hauling hay. I miss the dually we had. The biggest problem with them is getting in and out of narrow gates where we load/unload cattle and in some pastures where we haul hay out of. The stability in a cross wind is soooo much better than SRW!

I bought a dually because I bought used and dually are cheaper on the used market around here.

As to your question - yes they help a lot in towing for stability. And as I found out it's very nice to have two tires per side in the event of a flat tire.

I'm much happier with the handling - it's like night and day. The hauler bed did wonders for the looks! Overall, I am very happy with it now and won't go back to srw as long as I haul this much weight. Same story from everyone I know who switched to a dually. Craig

Pics please.

When it comes to heavy hauling, they rule. Too many people try to get by with 3/4 ton SRW, when they really need a 1 ton DRW. Most people think Dodge DRW are the most awesome looking, manly truck on the road, in this class. I do, any way!
The only down side is slighly worse mileage, especially with 4.10. I get about 15 at 70mph. It is about 20 at 50-55. Sometimes you have to go 70 to get there today.
I think 5th wheel design compared to goose neck wheel position is to provide better/lower pin weight. Mine is about 2k pin, the rig about 12k empty. It pulls just fine, very stable, especially witth the DRW. I have a second 5er, a Mobil Scout, that has it's wheels way further back. It weighs about 8k, but has a higher pin weight. You could argue it is more stable, but both are good.

Much better for towing, and pissing people off in sports cars when you blow past them going up curvy mountain roads empty. I agree totally with SUPR way to many people with not enough truck out on the highways these days. Apparently rv dealers don't have to follow truck GCVRW limits.

I made from a DRW to a SRW and for towing i hate the truck i have now. That also might have something to do with the 35 inch tires. The whole tuck just makes me nervous with a heavy trailer behind me. I loved my dually. The only thing better about the truck i have now over my dually is when towing through any mud or pasture it digs down alot deeper and grabs something hard. That dually rear end just sate on top of the mud and spun and the front end ended up doing most of the work in in the mud.
