There is no recall for crank position sensors, but there is one for cam position sensors (abbreviated CMP, NOT CPS) which are notorious for failure.

I'm not saying that is your problem, just saying for the sake of it.

Actually,

The 2002 Strokers do have GPRs. I just went out and found it on mine, same place it has always been on the strokers. Sits right on top of the motor. The NAPA GP-110 is more of a 'direct replacement' for the 02. The NAPA ST-36 will also work and is a much heavier duty relay than the GP-110 but goes for about $85.

I think they had GPR's all the way up to the end of the production run in 03 MY.

On my PSD, it would always start if the glo plugs worked. It would start to act like you describe if the relay went bad or a few of the plugs burned up. If the relay is good check each glo plug. Mine would get progressivly harder to start as the plugs went. In over 200,000 miles I replaced the plugs twice, once I had 4 out and the other I had 5 not working. I'd replace them all at once as it is kind of a pain to move all the junk to get the valve covers off.

My buddy just got the recall done on his CPS...

He said they also fixed something that had "gold" in the name... I have no clue what he is talking about, but he does drive a Ford, so we speak different languages...
