Power Wagon Concept Truck

I saw this at a a Harley ralley in Galvaston a couple of weeks ago and thought I would share. The Dodge rep there told me it has a Cat diesel engine.

One more from the back...

oscaroc 10-06-2004 06:51 PM

I don't know what to think of that!

bkrukow 10-06-2004 07:14 PM

Why would they put a Cat in it? They already are in cahoots with Cummins. Not that I would complain because in my personal opinion Cat is better than Cummins. I dident think Cat even made any motor for automotive use that small. Ive seen pics of that before this summer I just cant remember where. I still dont know what to think of it.

I may be wrong but I have heard the H2 has a cat motor in it. is this true?

jrs_dodge_diesel 10-06-2004 08:36 PM

The H2, as in the Hummer H2? As far as I know they only come with gas engines. If it did come with a diesel it would be the D-max.

I think that the salesman was somewhat ignorant... Why would they go a Cat when the Cummins drive line is already in place and awsome? Most salesmen know nothing about Diesels anyway, other than that Ford owns Cummins and the their's is better than the others.

I think the Hummer is stuck with a gutless 360 Sparker...

As for the truck, well, put a gear splitter in there and I'll accept it.

graphitecumnz 10-06-2004 09:29 PM

uh... not the most 'attractive' vehicle I've seen.... I highly doubt the Cat engine statement. There isn't a yellow glow off the inside of that open hood. :D Not to mention that Cat hasn't expressed any interest in the light truck market.

They have a power wagon comming out in 05 and now their already planning a brand new design [eyecrazy] thats strange . having a CAT in it would just add to the wackyness.

You'd think maybe this is going to be the 1/2 ton option ? but then its a diesel so that will make sence figgering that ford is going to release mid sized diesel pick-ups in the future this must be D/C's option.

Have you guy's noticed that they are advirtising the crapola out of the hemi and maybe 1 little thing for the cummins maybe its a sign................... or maybe the cummins sells so good now that it dont need to advertize.

dodgeram 10-06-2004 09:35 PM

that's kind of old news ..........it's a concept truck from 99 or 2000 ............ and yes it had a cat diesel in it

Some info (An article dated back in 1998) about the CAT engine here:

http://www.expressindia.com/fe/daily.../35355524.html

""The Power Wagon, equipped with a Caterpillar-made 7.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, shares the name but little else with the 1946 workhorse of the same name. Robertson said the engine was meant as an "overkill statement" and the automaker has no plans to make it.""

Ahh, you showed who was the ignorant one with the CAT...
Didn't know they made any that small. Wonder what the smallest truck they put them in is? Wonder what we can fit one of them into...

Tazman 10-07-2004 11:47 AM

Just wonderin'

It's Daimler-Chrysler isn't it?? as in Daimler Mercedes.

Seems to me when, (not if) the beloved Cummins is dropped off the line  it'll be replaced by an offering from Benz.

I provided pix and brochure of this truck back in late 98 to a few sites.

It did have a CAT in it.

Since then I know that DC and Detroit are toying with an engine which makes sense since Detroit is under the DC umbrella.

The other statement I got was that Aisen was going to be the auto trans for the 4500 and bigger Ram/Freightliner med duty truck.

I read a while back that the engine is a Detroit.
