Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

Guess I'm living right then. Last weekend I recorded 21.6mpg on a trip. All I did was keep it right at 70mph and no A/C.
On the small fuel tank. My last truck ('98 Chevy C1500) had a 25 gallon tank and only getting 10-11mpg towing. Going little over 200 miles between fillups is a pain.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

I was wondering that since I got 800 miles to little more than 3/4 of a tank if I coulda got maybe 1000 miles out that tank if I were to continue to get 20+ mpg?

Some times I think you guys that claim to get such good milage out of these things are just pulling numbers out of the air. Not one person I have ever known with any deisel truck has claimed to get over 20 mpg. let alone 23+............ [/quote]

21.8 MPG on last weekends's trip to the flatlands of southern NJ.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

TxRedneck- If you got 800 miles out of your tank of fuel and burnt all 34 gallons you would be pushing 24 mpg. If you claim to have around 1/4 tank left at that point you are up to almost 30 mpg. I think I would faint and fall over if I ever got even close to that. I dont mean to dought you but these aint honda acords. I have only on rare ocasion gotten even close to 400 miles out of a tank. I usaly start looking for fuel around 375 miles. Are you sure you dident forget that you filled up once in there some where? If you got 1000 miles out of one tank and ran it dry you would be at 29.5 mpg. If this is actualy the case please let me know what your secret is.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

Well as you probaly dont relize is that an Excursion has a 45 gallon tank. So I used little more than 3/4 of a tank and before I reset the trip it said 795. So if you calculate that its around 20-23 mpg. Im sorry you dont belive me but its true. :-

Blue I have an acquantence that runs two of the Duramax Chevvies pulling cars. He gets less loaded than I do but about the same pulling an empty 7000 pound trailer at near 13. Loaded on winter blend he gets 8 to 9 I get 10 to 11 weighing 28, 29,000 in that area. With no trailer it should get some good mileage, let it break in.

TxRedneck-Sory, Iwas not paying close enough atention. I had it in my head that you had a dodge cummins. I went back and reread your posts and found it very clear that you have a Excersion. Like I said sory abought that, I need to start paying more atention when I read. :-[

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

I don't even start looking for a fuel station until I hit 470-500 miles, fuel guage doesn't work. I filled up yesterday at 597 miles and put in just over 28 gallons, for a 21.43 mpg. That was a little too close but hey it was a little farther to the cheap KY. fuel than I figured. This is not correcting for over size tires. My father in-law's D-Max is lucky to get 18 empty but it is a crew cab 4x4 dually. That is about what the others get that I know some even less but that is most likely the driver and he is seldom empty.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

Before i became a CTD owner I looked at a Duramax and talked to a gal that has one , she is getting 10 mpg all the time towing or just driving.

I have had my truck for about a month and am averaging 18.5 mpg hand calculated unless traffic is really stop and go.

Hand-calculated 20-21 mpg average, and thats in MT where I drive more than my fair share of the mountains. Its dropped down to around 18.5 mpg now with the cold temps, but compared to a friends PSD(his best so far on the highway is 18), I'm doing pretty good.-Steve

My last trip from Idaho Falls to Salt Lake I got 22.5 @ 70 mph. Just remember, that's all freeway from gas station to gas station, only one stop in between. When I do my normal routine, 80% freeway/20% city, I get just over 20, and I'm sure the other guys reporting 20+ are on the freeway most of the time doing ~70mph. You gotta love those guys that stretch it though. The last DMAX owner I talked to said he got 22 @ 80mph with a camper on top!

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

hand calculated kept speed just under 80 for 2 hundred miles got 21.1 with monteagle in the middle both ways. speedo 1.2 mi. fast at 80. used same pump, same spot, marked it so truck was in the same spot. ran fuel out on the ground so i know it was full. have gotten 24 to atlanta and back. havent been there since to back it up. speed was checked with gps.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

The last Dmax owner I talked to claimed to get 18 pulling a 20+ foot enclosed trailer. I found it real funie that 150 miles later when I was stoped for fuel he came riding up in a little toyota pickup with a can in the back and said he ran out of fuel 1 mile past the exit for fuel. : His low fuel light came on 1 mile before before the exit and he thought he could make it 20 miles to the next stop. When I got back on the inerstate and continued on, there was his truck one mile past the truck stop. So much for 18mpg. :-
