Poor Mileage in Dmax

Hey yall. Mom's new Dmax gets really cruddy mileage. It's got 3K on it, and I know that's not alot, but my engine got better than that at 1K. What's the deal? Does anyone know how big the fuel tank is? The maunal only lists is for a 1500 Crewcab and it is a 26 gal tank. Please tell me the General put a bigger tank than that in it.

Man. That sucks. Oh well, I've got bragging rights then.

When are you gonna get that clutch fixed and give us some updated numbers BR?

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

What mileage are you getting? I got 23.6 Interstate to North Carolina, and a flat 23 back. Cruise set on 80 most of the way. A few times I ran 90 and above.

This is stock everything also.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

We are getting 15 to the gallon running with the cruise on 70. That's hand calculated. The computer shows 17.

Crusing @72mph with no load gets about 20 but doing 60mph we get about 23 or so. Hand Calculated

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

BigBlue, does the Dmax have larger tires than the stock 245/75/16? If it does it will throw the mileage off.
The fuel tank size was one of the turn offs for me when I was looking at trucks. The 26 gallon tank is too small for a heavy duty truck.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

My partners '01 Dmax won't get over 18 MPG US.. :P That small tank and lower mileage than "promised" is cause for an aftermarket fuel cell. It sux only going 500-600 Km per fill. I really wonder how you get 23 MPG at 75 MPH when my partner has to be the softest footed driver on the planet. EXPLAIN....

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

I think some trucks are just better on fuels than other. I know a bunch of CTD guys that only get 18 on the highway. While I get 23 or so. And they have similar set ups to me.

Blue,
They should put a box on it maybe the better fuel milage will pay for its self. The chip we have on the Excursion has paid for its self many and many times over.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

This is true. My dodge only got 17 to the gallon until I got an Edge ez. Then it went up to 19. Then after the TST and DD's it went way up, and was much more fun to drive. Stock was boring.

Re:Poor Mileage in Dmax

Some times I think you guys that claim to get such good milage out of these things are just pulling numbers out of the air. Not one person I have ever known with any deisel truck has claimed to get over 20 mpg. let alone 23+. I have never ever seen 20 I came close one time and got it up to 19 or so but it usaly runs right around 16-17 local or hiway. The last tank I ran threw it couldent have got even 10. I think I got some bad fuel or something because it flat out drank it down like nothing. As far as the tank on the GM trucks only being 26 gallons, Who cares so long as it is 26 usable gallons. I have a 34 gallon tank and have never gotten more than 24 gallons in it after the low fuel light comes on. Everyone on here says not to run them lower than that anyhow so the last 10 gallons does not do ya much good. It is nice to know its there though when the light comes on in the middle of no-where.
