Permatex grey

Diff cover service.
Grey stuff says wait 24 hours till refilling with fluids.

Anyone go sooner than 24?

Like anyone else, I'm in a rush.

Thanks

I always use the blue stuff but I looked at the instructions for both and they are almost identical. It says to clean off using brake cleaner, assemble wet and tighten down until the sealant starts to squeeze out, wait one hour to dry then tighten down, sealant cures in 24 hours and to wait longer in the cold. I work in a heated shop and wait about an hour for it to dry then tighten down and refill at that point but don't drive until the next day, never had a problem.

If you're in a rush, use The Right Stuff. Ready to drive in an hour or two.

The right stuff. Pretty much the closest thing you can buy to factory rtv sealant. Best I've found so far for all around use.

I applied a bead of permatex ultra grey, waited about an hour for it to skin over then bolted it up, filled and drove it. Had the upper right hand bolt seep a bit after about a year, but no problems. Did the same on the front a bit later and no leaks...

I use Permatex gray on differential covers all the time. It is a great sealant made for high clamp loads; it isn't as good at filling large gaps. Anyway, I bolt the pieces together then wait about half an hour before filling with oil. Never had any problems this way. If ambient temperature is low, I have one of those magnetic oil pan heaters I'll stick on there for a while to speed up the process a bit before adding the oil.
