Oil & Fuel Filter Shelf Life

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy package deals on Fuel & Oil filters. I was wondering how long can someone keep a Oil & Fuel Filters on the shelf at home or in thier shop?
I was told they should last a long time as long as they are kept in a clean & dry place. Also suggested if the filters comes in a box and are not sealed in a clear wrap to wrap them with stretch wrap to keep bugs & moisture out. I've never stored filters before so I was just wondering if it was worth buying a few when I run across a bargin...
I buy my filters as needed now. Some place like Gino's has the 4 oil filters & 2 fuel filter package which is a good deal. The thing is I don't drive my truck everyday. So I don't put a lot of miles on it. So the filters will be sitting on my shelf for a little while.

If you keep the somewhere cool and dry they will last plenty long for you to use them all assuming you change your oil at least yearly.

No problem. Buy 5 years worth if you feel like it.

IMHO, anything that's made to stand up to the heat, solvent actions and acids of fuel and hot oil would have a long shelf life. Cool storage or sitting in the hot sun should make no difference to an oil filter. Bugs might get in and eat the paper but I doubt it. YMMV. I wouldn't be afraid to use a 50 year old spin-on unless it was a brand that was suspect to begin with. (They know who they are.)

I got a case of old purolator oil filters I bought 3 years ago off ebay. Plan to use them all. Should take about 12 years.

Wrap them in plastic wrap (saran wrap or what have you) and they will keep virtually forever.
